A recent important judgment of the Lahore High Court has shed light on the timelines when a claim may be filed in the consumer court. The court has laid emphasis that legal proceedings must be initiated the moment the cause of action arises otherwise the claim shall be considered as time barred. However, the element which has been overlooked is that the general consumer does not understand the law and this law was enacted to encourage general consumers to litigate without the help of lawyers.
