A Chinese man, known online as “Coal Miner No 3,” started working in coal mines alongside his father at 12 years old to escape poverty. He hailed from a poor mountain village and undertook various jobs to survive. Decades later, following years of diligent work, nocturnal study, and perseverance, he earned a PhD in Mining Engineering from Beijing University of Technology. His story gained widespread attention after he shared the acknowledgments from his thesis, expressing gratitude to his mentors and recounting his arduous journey from the mines to academia.

He opted to remain anonymous, stating his sole desire was to inspire others from humble backgrounds.
