Construction of the 1 Megawatt Chalt Power Project in Nagar is 99% complete.
The fitting of machinery is currently underway and is expected to be completed by May 12. Power supply from the power station will begin on May 15. Said Mr Sanaullah, Secretary Water and Power, Gilgit-Baltistan.
While speaking about his visit to Nagar, the Secretary of Water and Power said that high-quality work is being carried out at the power houses. During the visit, Executive Engineer of Nagar, Aamir Shehzad, and other officials were also present and received a detailed briefing about the 1 MW power house.
The Secretary reviewed the ongoing construction at the Chalt Power House, which is being supported by a German bank, KfW. He expressed satisfaction with the contractor’s performance.Notably, the project was initiated last year through the collaboration of the Shinbar Rural Support Organization and the Water and Power Department to ensure complete power generation and full voltage supply from the 1 MW Chalt Power Project to the local population.Work included the construction of a strong and secure headworks in the stream, reconstruction of the powerhouse, replacement of the penstock pipe, and repairs to protect the water channel.
Additionally, important agreements related to minimizing load shedding and ensuring irrigation water supply for the public are also part of this project.Secretary Sanaullah was briefed on all these activities and shown the ongoing work at the site. He expressed satisfaction and instructed the contractor to complete the machinery fitting as soon as possible so that people can be relieved from load shedding.The contractor assured that by May 15, work on the 1 MW project would be completed and electricity supply from the powerhouse would begin.After reviewing the detailed briefing, the Secretary had lunch at a local hotel in the afternoon, and then visited the under-construction 1.5 MW Hassanabad Power House and the 2 MW power house in Sost Valley, both financially supported by KfW Germany.
