Open Letter to the In-Charge
Anti-Corruption Department
Gilgit-Baltistan
Subject: Urgent Request for Investigation into Corruption in Misgar Power House Project
Dear Sir,
We, the residents of Hunza, are writing to bring to your immediate attention the serious corruption and mismanagement in the Misgar Power House project under the Water and Power Department (PWD). At present, Hunza remains in darkness due to these irregularities, severely affecting daily life and the thriving tourism industry in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Key Issues:
1. Misallocation of Funds:
- The department installed 3MW machinery, but the actual generation capacity is only 1.5MW—half of what was promised.
- The water channel condition is inadequate for 3MW, indicating poor planning or deliberate fund misappropriation.
2. Unjustified Load-Shedding:
- In summer despite sufficient water flow, we face power cuts.
- In winter, the situation worsens due to harsh weather and poor maintenance.
3. Suspected Corruption:
- The project funds, meant for public welfare, appear to have been diverted by corrupt officials.
- No action has been taken despite repeated complaints.
Our Request:
We urgently demand that your office:
1. Investigate the Misgar Power House project for financial and technical irregularities.
2. Hold accountable those responsible for corruption and mismanagement.
3. Ensure transparency in future projects to prevent such issues.
The people of Hunza cannot tolerate this injustice any longer. We request immediate intervention to restore reliable electricity and punish the corrupt.
Your Faithfully,
The People of Hunza
Baltistan
