On October 6, 2026, Agriculture Research Station (ARS) Baffa Mansehra hosted a meeting with the Plant Breeders' Rights (PBR) Registry team, led by Registrar Dr. Naeem Ahmed, under the chairmanship of Director ARS Baffa Mansehra Dr. Ahmed Abbas Malik. The meeting was attended by all researchers and breeders, the session focused on Plant Varietal Protection (PVP) and the landmarking of local genetic materials and landraces o the area agro-ecological system. Dr. Naeem Ahmed outlined the PBR Registry's progress to date, addressed breeders' technical queries, and pledged continued administrative support and collaboration to secure intellectual property rights for the newly registered varieties and regional landraces one of a vital steps for safeguarding breeder rights and enhancing institutional credibility. Following the discussions, the delegation inspected advanced rice breeding lines on site and collected specimens for molecular and genomic profiling at the registry's designated bio-molecular laboratory.

The grading and cleaning of wheat seed varieties Naurang-23 (Pre-Basic and Basic), Khyber-23 (Basic), and PS-23 (Basic) are in progress. This seed will be available to farmers for the upcoming Rabi Season 2026–27.

A KPIAIP Project

A feasibility assessment for a High-Efficiency Irrigation System (HEIS) was conducted at Agricultural Research Station Baffa Mansehra, with the participation of the concerned focal person and water management department Mansehra. During the visit, the proposed sites were assessed, and the farm Manager Arshad Iqbal briefed by team regarding the technical requirements, suitability, and benefits of the HEIS. Their feedback and concerns were also taken into consideration during the feasibility assessment.

Today dated; 02 Oct, 2026, at the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, ARI Tarnab, Peshawar, potato tissue-culture plantlets have been successfully transferred and transplanted into the greenhouse for virus-free mini-tuber production under the project “Virus-Free Seed Potato Production at Higher Altitudes of Kurram and Orakzai.” This step marks an important stage in producing healthy, high-quality seed potato for sustainable production.

Retirement Ceremony of Mr. Hafeez ur Rehman, PRO Horticulture, ARI Tarnab
A retirement ceremony in honour of Mr. Hafeez ur Rehman, PRO Horticulture, ARI Tarnab, was held on 2nd of October, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Conference Hall of ARI Tarnab.
The Director General Research, Senior Director ARI Tarnab, Senior Director Outreach, Director DSPN, Director Olive Research, PROs, SROs and ROs paid tribute to Mr. Hafeez ur Rehman for his dedicated and honest service throughout his career. His strong command of his subject, professional achievements, punctuality, discipline and commitment to duty were particularly appreciated. His simple appearance, modest personality and humble conduct throughout his service were also highlighted as qualities that earned him respect among his colleagues.
Mr. Hafeez ur Rehman expressed his gratitude for the kind words, respect and affection shown by his colleagues and extended his blessings and best wishes to everyone.
The ceremony concluded with a lunch arranged in his honour, marking the occasion with warmth and fellowship.
