🚦 AI Powered Smart Traffic Control System using YOLOv8 & Raspberry Pi 🤖

In this project, I trained a custom YOLOv8 object detection model to detect and count vehicles based on traffic density. The system is deployed on Raspberry Pi 4 and automatically controls Red, Yellow, and Green LEDs through GPIO pins on a breadboard according to vehicle frequency.

🚗 Traffic Logic:
Low Traffic → Red LED

Regularization helps prevent overfitting in machine learning models by adding penalties to the loss function. There are two main types: Lasso (L1) regularization and Ridge (L2) regularization. Both are used in models like linear regression, logistic regression, SVMs, and neural networks. Regularization keeps all features but penalizes large weights, helping the model generalize better. In Ridge, the penalty is based on the squared weights, while Lasso encourages sparsity by using absolute values. Lambda controls how strong the penalty is. Too large a lambda can lead to underfitting. Basically, regularization aims to reduce overfitting and improve performance on new data.

I trained a custom YOLOv8 model on vehicle datasets downloaded from Roboflow Universe for real-time vehicle detection and traffic analysis. The system is capable of detecting and counting multiple vehicle types from images and videos with high accuracy and is deployed on a Raspberry Pi.

• Google Colab (GPU Training)
• Object Detection & Tracking
• IoT Integration with Breadboard LEDs

The exciting part: the detected vehicle density is used to control LED traffic signals on a breadboard, simulating an intelligent AI-based traffic management system using computer vision + IoT.
