The Sindh cabinet has approved a CNIC-based vehicle registration system with personalised registration marks (PRMs), allowing number plates to remain with the owner even after selling a vehicle. The move aims to align with global best practices and improve traceability through NADRA-linked integration.
Under the new system, registration marks will be linked to the owner’s CNIC instead of the vehicle chassis, while the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) will still be based on the chassis number. PRMs can be retained, reused, or surrendered, enhancing administrative convenience and asset tracking.
The provincial government also continues promoting Ajrak-design number plates with added security features, including threads, holograms, and barcodes, as part of the Safe City Project. Testing of the new CNIC-based system will begin before formal implementation.

Public universities across Punjab are seeing a sharp dip in student admissions this year, sparking concern among education experts and policy planners about the future of higher studies in the province.
Official data from the Punjab Higher Education Department shows a 20% to 30% drop in enrollment for undergraduate, MPhil, and PhD programs at several major institutions.
Renowned universities like Punjab University Lahore, Government College University Faisalabad, and Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan have reported lower-than-expected numbers, while smaller campuses in Dera Ghazi Khan, Sahiwal, and Narowal are facing even bigger challenges.
Specialists point to economic strain, outdated study programs, and a growing gap between degrees and market demands as possible causes. Many families now find even public universities harder to afford due to hostel, transport, and study-related expenses.

Australia is pioneering glow-in-the-dark roads to enhance night driving safety in rural and unlit regions. Using phosphorescent paint made with strontium aluminate, these markings absorb sunlight during the day and glow for up to 10 hours at night — with no electricity needed. Trials are currently underway on Bulli Pass (NSW) and Metung Road (Victoria), both high-risk areas for nighttime accidents. The glowing lines help drivers navigate sharp curves and dangerous turns in the dark. While early feedback is mixed, this eco-friendly innovation could reduce crash rates and lighting costs, lighting the path toward smarter, safer roads worldwide.

The All Pakistan Private Schools Management Association has opposed the Punjab government’s decision to extend summer vacations until September 1, calling it h@rmful to students’ education.
The move came after Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced the extension due to the ongoing heatwave, citing he@lth concerns.
The association noted that schools in Islamabad reopened on August 4, while other provinces resumed earlier, w@rning that nearly three months away from classrooms will slow learning and hu_rt board exam preparation.

Brand Faces Backlash for AI Ad Featuring Quaid-e-Azam, Deletes Post After Outrage
Dipitt, a popular sauce brand, has come under fire after sharing an AI-generated ad that appeared to show Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah eating with a bottle of Dipitt’s chilli garlic sauce on the table. The now-deleted post sparked swift backlash on social media, with users accusing the brand of disrespectfully using Pakistan’s founding father for commercial gain.
Critics called the campaign “ignorant,” “tone-deaf,” and “shameful,” urging brands to draw the line when it comes to national figures. Many expressed disappointment over what they saw as a desperate attempt to force product placement into sensitive contexts.
Despite regularly posting edgy, pop-culture-inspired content, Dipitt has yet to release an official statement addressing the controversy. The incident has reignited debate about responsible marketing and the limits of AI-generated content in advertising.
