The Soil and Water Conservation Department, Shangla, has successfully completed the construction of a water pond in Katkor, Tehsil Chakisar under W.C.B.A 2024-25.

📍 Location: Katkor, Tehsil Chakisar, District Shangla
📐 Pond Dimensions: 21 feet × 30 feet × 5 feet (depth)

The constructed pond has a storage capacity of approximately 3,150 cubic feet, which is equivalent to about 89,800 litres of water. This facility is designed to harvest and store rainwater and surface runoff, ensuring efficient use of available water resources in the area.

The stored water will be utilized for:

Irrigation of nearby agricultural lands 🌾

Provision of drinking water for livestock 🐄

Groundwater recharge and moisture retention 🌱

Support of soil conservation and vegetation growth 🌳
With an estimated capacity to irrigate approximately 0.06 acres of land under conventional irrigation or up to 0.20 acres under efficient irrigation systems (drip/sprinkler), this pond will significantly contribute to improving agricultural productivity and promoting sustainable land use in the region.

The Department of Soil and Water Conservation, Shangla, remains committed to implementing practical measures aimed at water conservation, soil protection, and climate resilience in hilly and rain-fed areas.

Flood 2025 Update – Tehsil Puran, District Shangla

The recent floods have brought unprecedented devastation across Tehsil Puran, especially in Chaoga and Kozpao.

Over 1000 acres of fertile agricultural land has been washed away.
Standing crops of rice and maize have been completely destroyed, leaving hundreds of families without their livelihood.
Villages remain cut off, and the destruction to fields is beyond imagination.

This is not just damage to land – it is a blow to the lives, hopes, and future of our people. The affected families are in urgent need of support and rehabilitation.

Please keep the people of Tehsil Puran in your prayers, and let us come together to extend every possible help in this hour of need.
