Pakistan’s government has reportedly shut down its social media monitoring firewall, launched in 2024, after it failed to work properly and caused slow internet across the country.
Experts warned it could cost the economy up to $300 million, as freelancers and IT businesses faced major disruptions. The project was reportedly ended to protect the upcoming 5G auction and rebuild investor trust.
The decision has raised concerns over the alleged Rs40 billion spent, with many calling it a costly failure.
