The World Maritime Day 2025 was observed on Wednesday with the theme “Our Oceans, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity,” highlighting the importance of collective efforts to strengthen maritime cooperation, protect marine ecosystems, and harness the potential of the blue economy for Pakistan’s sustainable growth and prosperity.

To commemorate the day, a seminar was jointly organized by The Nautical Institute, Pakistan, Institute of Shipbrokers Pakistan, Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, and the Pakistan Merchant Navy Officers Association in Karachi.

Commander Karachi, Vice Admiral Muhammad Faisal Abbasi, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The event was attended by senior officers of the Pakistan Navy and Merchant Navy, representatives of port authorities, diplomats, academics, and members of maritime organizations.

Police on Wednesday completed an operation at the Afghan Camp located along the Northern Bypass, demolishing more than 300 illegally constructed houses and shops.

According to DIG West Irfan Baloch, the operation faced resistance from some residents; however, police successfully carried out their task. He added that several individuals were taken into custody during the operation.

SLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Wednesday announced that the October 15 deadline for filing income tax returns will now be extended to October 31.

A notification issued by the revenue board read that the deadline was being extended following requests from trade bodies and tax bar associations, and was being implemented as per Section 214A of the 2001 Income Tax Ordinance.
