Karachi, it’s time to raise the bar! 🌧️
Another heavy rain spell is predicted for Sept 8 & 9
Last time, while our city drowned, "ordinary citizens became extraordinary heroes" rescuing families, sheltering strangers, and feeding the hungry; while the so-called “authorities” vanished.
This time, let’s be "smarter, stronger, and better prepared". This isn’t about politics; it’s about "People Power". 💪
We need:
1️⃣ Rescue Volunteers: Anyone with a 4x4, SUV, or even strong arms ready to help women, children, and the elderly in flood-prone areas.
2️⃣ Shelter Providers: Homes, restaurants, schools, masjids ready to open doors for families in distress.
3️⃣ Food & Water Points: Restaurants, cafes, or even private homes willing to provide water, snacks, or a place to recharge phones.
4️⃣ Animal Safe Spots: Yards, porches, or garages where street cats and dogs can stay dry. 🐾
5️⃣ Flood Watch Teams: People ready to monitor water levels in their areas and share real-time updates on a dedicated group.
Practical steps we can take NOW:
1. Keep schools/universities closed on rain days.
2. Stock up on dry food, water, power banks, and emergency lights.
3. If you live in a flood-prone area, move your cars to safer ground before the storm hits.
4. Always carry a tow cable in your car.
Bike riders: grease up your bikes and use Bykea/Uber closer to the dates to avoid breakdowns.
5. Workplaces: Demand a rain contingency plan. If they refuse, "name and shame" them publicly.
6.:Write to your MNAs "before the rains" asking for their action plan. No more selfies from SUVs - we want real answers.
Let’s make a "list of volunteers, shelters, rescue vehicles, and safe spaces" before the skies open up. Share your name, area, and what you can offer.
This is Karachi. We don’t wait for governments. We take care of our own. 💙
