"Provincial Renewable Energy Policy Workshop – Balochistan"
The workshop, hosted by Ms Farida Gul, and Ms. Seema Malook underscored Balochistan’s pivotal role in shaping Pakistan’s clean energy future. Discussions highlighted the urgency of policy clarity, institutional readiness, and inclusive participation to unlock the province’s renewable energy potential.
Opening remarks “Dr. Quratul Ain Bakhtiari, Founding Director of IDSP, warmly welcomed the participants, expressed gratitude to the Balochistan Energy Department for its collaboration, and commended IDSP’s Renewable Energy Team for organizing the consultation. She highlighted IDSP’s commitment to the sustainable living and livelihood initiated with IDSP’s own institutional learning and living space . The entire structure of IDSP is created , managed by the young fellows of IDSP. IDSP practice its believes and then promote and advocate it to policy level. Its young fellows and community-driven solutions, emphasizing that meaningful progress in renewable energy depends on young individual ‘s professional freedom institutional support and empowered communities.”
"Special Address on Policy Formulation & Current Status"
🔹 Mr. Muhammad Dawood Bazai, Secretary Energy, emphasized the need for clear, implementable policies, institutional strengthening, and collective action to accelerate renewable adoption amid the unfolding climate crisis.
"Stocktake of Challenges, Opportunities & Energy Outlook in Balochistan"
🔹Ms Rabia .Rabia, Senior Research Associate, presented a comprehensive overview of the province’s energy landscape—identifying systemic gaps such as fossil fuel dependence, weak transmission networks, and affordability barriers, while pointing to opportunities in solar, wind, and community-driven renewable models.
"Policy Priorities & Framework Direction"
🔹 Sahibzada NajeebUllah, Additional Secretary Energy, outlined priorities of the forthcoming policy framework, including renewable expansion, financing mechanisms, regulatory reforms, and community engagement. He emphasized that the workshop outcomes will contribute to a people-centered, action-oriented policy tailored to Balochistan and aligned with national commitments.
"Interactive Session on Target Setting"
🔹 Mr Muhammad Basit Ghauri Renewable First, facilitated an interactive session capturing participants’ inputs on proposed targets, priorities, and guiding principles. His engagement ensured that stakeholder perspectives directly shaped the policy framework.
The workshop reaffirmed that Balochistan is central to Pakistan’s energy transition and, with the right policies and investments, can emerge as a leader in sustainable and inclusive energy solutions.
