Karachi had roughly 14,000 residents in 1838. By 1872, this number had increased to 56,000 and had continued to rise. According to data, Karachi had roughly 105,000 people living there in 1891, and when the 19th century came to an end in 1901, there were 117,000 people living there.

One of the largest and finest equipped ports in the world was now Karachi. The city's population had surpassed 100,000, with Muslims making up 55% of the population and Hindus making up 41%. By drawing substantial communities of European commerce, Iranians, Lebanese, Goan, Parsi, and Hindu merchants, Karachi had developed a metropolitan character.
