This article argues that while AI and Large Language Models can increase productivity for basic tasks, their overuse in education threatens the fundamental learning process. The author contends that true learning occurs through the mental effort of reading and writing, which develops critical thinking and reasoning skills—benefits that are lost when these tasks are outsourced to AI. He calls for educational institutions to restrict AI use to protect core skills and warns of broader societal risks, including the devaluation of human labor and the potential for social unrest if AI-driven gains are not equitably shared.
