Road Blockade in Astore Leaves Locals Stranded, Patients in Peril
Dass Kharam, Astore – A massive landslide triggered by recent heavy snowfall has blocked the main road connecting Dass Kharam to the rest of Astore district, leaving residents stranded and essential services in disarray. The road, a lifeline for the region, has been impassable for days, causing severe hardships for the local population.
According to residents, patients in critical condition are unable to reach the District Headquarters Hospital, forcing families to travel long distances on foot in freezing temperatures. "My father is a heart patient, and we have no way to get him to a doctor. The ambulance service cannot reach us," said a worried local, Shabbir Hussain.
The shortage of food supplies and medicines has further aggravated the crisis. Many traders in Dass Kharam rely on supplies from Astore town, but with the road blocked, shops are running empty, and prices of available goods have skyrocketed.
Local authorities have assured residents that efforts are underway to clear the road, but harsh weather conditions and a lack of machinery have slowed the progress. "We understand the suffering of the people and are working round the clock to restore access," an official from the district administration said.
Until the road is reopened, the people of Dass Kharam remain cut off, battling extreme conditions with limited resources. The residents urge the government to expedite the clearance operation and establish an emergency medical service to prevent further suffering.
