Discourage the Devil
Gloria Copeland

Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake. Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.
Luke 6:22-23

Do you want to know how to depress the devil? Just follow the instructions in that last verse. When persecution comes, when friends or family criticize you because you lay hands on the sick and believe in healing, and when coworkers call you a fanatic because you love Jesus and aren’t afraid to say so, rejoice! Shout hallelujah and leap for joy!

I tell you that will discourage the devil to no end. He’s expecting that persecution to hurt you. He’s expecting it to damage your faith, to wipe you out, and to leave you in dismay.

I’m not saying you should enjoy the persecution itself. But you can learn to overlook the discomfort of those things by focusing your attention on the reward that’s coming and the fact that Jesus said you are blessed.

The Apostle Paul certainly knew how to do that. He was an expert on rejoicing in the midst of persecution. Satan was constantly stirring up trouble for him. But do you know what he said about all that persecution? He said it was not even worth considering compared to the glory that was about to be revealed.

If Paul could rejoice in the midst of beatings, stonings, shipwrecks, imprisonment and almost every other kind of persecution, you can too!

Just do what he did. When he was told by the Holy Ghost that bonds and afflictions awaited him, he said, “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God” (Acts 20:24).

Don’t get all caught up in what people think and what people say down here on earth. Get caught up in pleasing the Lord. Get caught up in finishing your course with joy. Get caught up in the glorious hope that’s ahead. For that hope is enough to make anyone–under any circumstances–leap for joy!

WHERE TO BEGIN.
- Reinhard Bonnke

A young man told me that he had a call to preach the Gospel, but his pastor was not willing to give him his pulpit. I looked at him and said, “I will give you a pulpit!” He looked at me wide-eyed and said, “What? You want to give me your pulpit?” I said, “No, but I can give you a pulpit. Every street corner is a pulpit.” I continued, “That is where I
started, and you have to begin there as well.”
The Scripture says, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin” (Zechariah 4:10 NLT).

MINISTRY GROWTH COMES IN PHASES. GROWTH HAPPENS slowly.

You will mature in the Word, in faith, in the Holy Spirit and in bearing fruit.
Don’t give up when opposition comes. Jesus made us more than conquerors. We have an open heaven, angels ascending and descending, our prayers reaching heaven unhindered, and the Holy Spirit constantly pouring upon us like sunshine from a cloudless sky.

It’s troubling to see how active we are in church programs, yet we haven't truly become a family. We organize events, attend services, and serve faithfully, but if we can’t stand with each other in times of failure, then we’ve missed the very heart of what it means to be the body of Christ.

PLEASE LEARN SOMETHING FROM THIS STORY:

Who would’ve thought that Socrates — the great philosopher known for his wisdom, calmness, and profound words — lived with a woman who constantly tested his patience? His wife was infamous for her sharp tongue, dominant presence, and relentless temper. Every morning, she pushed him out of the house at sunrise, and he only returned when the sun was about to set.

Yet, despite her difficult character, Socrates always spoke of her with respect and even gratitude. He once admitted that he owed a portion of his wisdom to her, because without such daily trials, he would’ve never learned that true wisdom lives in silence, and peace is found in stillness.

One day, while he sat with his students, she began shouting at him as usual — but this time, she poured water over his head. Unshaken, Socrates simply wiped his face and said calmly, “Well, after thunder, rain was only to be expected.”

Her story ended suddenly. During another of her outbursts, when Socrates, as always, remained calm and silent, her rage overwhelmed her. She suffered a heart attack and passed away that very night. While she erupted like a storm, Socrates remained a sea of calm.

Her name faded into history. His composure became legend. This isn’t just a story of conflict — it’s a reminder that strength often shows in silence, and that the greatest teachers sometimes come disguised as life’s most difficult people.

DON’T CRY WHEN ALL ARE NOT HEALED

Something happened while I was in Kansas City. The Kansas City Star sent a reporter to the services. I became acquainted with her, a lovely young woman with a keen journalistic mind. She attended all the services, and the last night, following the meeting, she came back to my dressing room. One of my helpers let her in, and she found me crying. She was embarrassed, but I went ahead and just sort of bared my soul to her, forgetting she was a reporter.

I said, “You know, people would think that after a miracle service like this, when scores and scores have been healed, that I would be the happiest person in the whole world. I am grateful I have seen the manifestation of God’s power. But no one knows the hurt and grief I feel for those who were not healed. I wonder if perhaps I had known better how to cooperate with the Holy Spirit, more might have been accomplished for God.” I could not hold back the flood of tears, and the reporter finally slipped out.
About three weeks later, I received a letter from this reporter. She said, “I am not writing as a reporter for the Kansas City Star, but as someone who had a friend in that last service. He was an attorney. He was dying of cancer. They brought him in on a stretcher. About a week after you left Kansas City, I went to his home and was greeted at the front door by his wife. She told me Tom had died. I started to leave, but she insisted I come in. Her face was radiant. She said, ‘That service in the auditorium was the greatest thing that happened to Tom. Obviously he was not healed. We took him back home on the same stretcher on which he was carried in. But it was during that service that Tom prepared for death. Lying on that stretcher, while the power of God was falling, my husband accepted Christ and received forgiveness for his sins. Before then, he was struggling. Afterwards, he was peaceful. Death was easy —victorious. It was glorious to hear him thanking Jesus for the forgiveness of his sins.’”
The reporter finished her letter: “Kathryn Kuhlman, don’t weep after a service any more. When you think there should have been greater results than the healing of sick bodies, always remember my friend Tom. The greatest miracle that could have happened to him was the salvation of his soul.”
No, I don’t understand why everyone is not healed physically. But all can be healed spiritually. That’s the greatest miracle any human being can know.
