🚨 BREAKING NEWS

A massive narcotics haul worth over Rs. 1.1 billion has been seized at Bandaranaike International Airport, with 22 Buddhist monks arrested during a special operation on Saturday night (April 25)

The raid was carried out by officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau following intelligence information. Authorities recovered over 110 kg of suspected Kush and Hashish, hidden in false-bottom suitcases among school supplies and sweets.

Each suspect was reportedly carrying over 5 kg of narcotics. Investigations reveal the group had travelled to Bangkok on April 22, with tickets allegedly arranged by a sponsor. Phone evidence also showed them in civilian clothing while overseas.

This is being described as the largest drug seizure in the history of the airport and the first case involving monks in such a large-scale narcotics operation.

The suspects are expected to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court for further legal proceedings.
