🇱🇰 Sri Lanka records rise in HIV/AIDS cases – 2025 Update
Sri Lanka reported 639 new HIV infections in the first 9 months of 2025, marking a 6% increase compared to 2024, according to the National STD/AIDS Control Programme.
⚠️ 30 HIV-related deaths were also confirmed.

📊 The highest number of cases was recorded in the first quarter, the largest quarterly figure since 2009.
👨‍🦱👩‍🦰 A strong gender gap was noted, with a male-to-female ratio of 6:1.
🧑‍🎓 71 cases were among youth aged 15–24, while most infections were among those over 25.

🩺 Health authorities urge greater awareness, early testing, and prevention to control the rising trend.

The committee will be chaired by Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, with Senior Additional Secretary G.M.R.D. Aponso as Convener.
