Cercetarea artefactelor din perioada elenistică descoperite vara trecută la Callatis a intrat într-o nouă etapă: documentare digitală și reconstituire virtuală!

Cercetările arheologice nu se încheie odată cu finalul campaniei de teren. Dincolo de momentul descoperirii parcursul analitic este complex, alcătuit din numeroase etape de documentare și interpretare, esențiale pentru înțelegerea și valorificarea corectă a vestigiilor. Astfel de studii oferă totodată baza desfășurării corecte a activităților de restaurare și conservare.

Documentare digitală de mare precizie a elementelor patului funerar:

Principalul obiectiv al etapei recente de cercetare a fost documentarea digitală fidelă a pieselor ce compun sarcofagul de tip pat funerar recuperat din cavoul din Movila Dulcești.

Acesta a fost demantelat în antichitate de jefuitori și apoi recuperat bucată cu bucată de arheologi. În prezent este recompus în sala Lapidarium a Muzeului Național de Istorie a României. Prin înregistrarea exactă a geometriei și a aspectului suprafețelor vizibile ale blocurilor de calcar și marmură, aceste studii au fost esențiale, mai ales înainte de asamblarea elementelor pentru spațiul expozițional, oferind o bază solidă pentru analize și interpretări viitoare asupra sarcofagului. Documentațiile 3D au fost realizate prin utilizarea fotogrammetriei cu ajutorul partenerilor noștri de la Luthonium Virtual Heritage.

Recompunerea sarcofagului în mediul virtual:

Obiectivul nostru este valorificarea digitală a cavoului de la Dulcești. Prin tehnici de modelare 3D, fragmentele sarcofagului sunt recompuse virtual, astfel încât să poată fi înțeles aspectul său original, anterior dezmembrării cauzate de jefuirile din antichitate. Sarcofagul este apoi repoziționat în locația sa inițială, în cadrul modelului digital 3D al cavoului, realizat pe baza scanărilor efectuate in situ. O astfel de abordare este și o formă de restaurare care permite explorarea diverselor ipoteze.

O privire în interiorul cavoului elenistic:

În etapa finală, modelul reasamblat al sarcofagului va servi drept punct de plecare pentru o reconstituire virtuală completă a interiorului cavoului, așa cm ar fi arătat acesta înainte de intervențiile umane. Rezultatul va permite atât specialiștilor, cât și publicului larg, să exploreze un monument funerar excepțional din epoca elenistică într-o formă cât mai apropiată de realitatea antică.

Onestitate și transparență:

Unul dintre cele mai frumoase lucruri pe care ni le oferă mediul digital este libertatea de a gândi restaurarea ca pe un dialog, nu ca pe un verdict final. În spațiul virtual, putem propune reconstituiri și soluții de restaurare fără a interveni ireversibil asupra originalului, testând diferite variante și scenarii.

Fiecare restaurare este, în fond, o interpretare: o lectură a trecutului realizată cu instrumentele, sensibilitatea și estetica timpului nostru. Modelele digitale ne permit să facem acest lucru transparent, onest și reversibil — să arătăm nu doar ce știm, ci și cm știm și ce presupuneri facem.

Prin îmbinarea cercetării arheologice cu tehnologiile digitale, Muzeul Național de Istorie a României își continuă misiunea de a proteja, studia și face accesibil patrimoniul arheologic și arhitectural de excepție din România, deschizând noi perspective asupra modului în care trecutul poate fi înțeles și valorizat astăzi.

Proud to be part of the extended team documenting the Hellenistic tomb and burial mound at Callatis.

The next step is the virtual reconstruction of the sarcophagus — placing it back into the digitized tomb chambers (digitized by Gigapixel Art S.R.L.) and, ultimately, recreating the structure as it may have appeared before the ancient robberies.

This is bracelet no. 5, dated to the 1st century BC, discovered at Sarmizegetusa Regia .

Last year I had the opportunity to digitize the Hypogeum Tomb in Constanța — a 4th-century underground burial chamber, home to some of the most beautifully preserved murals from late Roman times.
