I am posting here a skilfully written article by one of the special individuals I met in Trieste, Ivan Paukov (a journalist and writer of Moldovan origin).
The article discusses our film, "77 Years Back", in relation to the historical context of the village of Marculesti, where my grandfather was born and from where he was forced to flee in 1943. We learned how, in the same village, a few years earlier, a great tragedy occurred for the local population, predominantly Jewish (about which I recommend another film, made in the same places: "Absent" by Matthew Mishory - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3344050).
I strongly believe in the power of love, and I believe that no one, regardless of religion or race, should experience such things. Neither what happened to the Jews of Marculesti, killed because of hatred, nor what happened to the Romanian families, including my own grandfather's parents, forced to leave their land because of the war.
The article, although written in Russian, can be easily translated - especially now, when we have Google and ChatGPT.
