Bored in Timișoara?
Time to try something different.
Let’s explore the EuroVelo 13 Iron Curtain Trail.
Timiș County — Part II.
From quiet villages in Banat to the city that sparked the Romanian Revolution, this is our ride towards Timișoara.
We left Jimbolia and headed toward Timișoara, but not before exploring a few hidden gems along the way.
Passing through Cenei, we had to stop for a moment to admire the beautiful Banat architecture and the village’s impressive Catholic church.
Next came Bobda, where we discovered the former beauty of the Csávossy family mausoleum. Here we also found a hidden gem: a beautiful mural close to the mausoleum.
Heading toward Timișoara, you can choose the shorter route through Săcălaz, with a bit more traffic, or take the slightly longer road through Sânmihaiu German, following the Bega River into the city.
In Timișoara, the traces of the Iron Curtain are still preserved. The first city liberated from the communist regime has countless stories waiting to be discovered.
At the Communist Consumer Museum, everyday objects tell the story of life during the era and bring a different period of Romanian history back to life.
We also visited the Memorial of the Revolution, dedicated to the events of December 1989 and the people who fought for freedom in the city where the Romanian Revolution began.
EuroVelo 13 isn’t just a cycling route — it’s a ride through history.
We had an amazing time documenting this trip, met wonderful people along the way, and we highly recommend exploring this part of Romania by bike.
