NEDRA TRANSLATION AGENCY MAINTAINS TOP POSITIONS IN THE LEADING RUSSIAN INDUSTRY RATING

During the general plenary session at the opening of the Translation Forum Russia 2017, held in Ufa on 26 May 2017, the rating of the largest translation companies in Russia was announced. It includes more than 120 national industry organizations.

The rating system was developed basing on the results of a survey and evaluation of the activities of the Russian national translation companies. The survey was conducted by the experts of the leading independent resource TranslationRating.ru.

This is the 6th annual expert survey performed in Russia and is essentially a comprehensive assessment of the Russian translation services market.

Based on the results of 2016 and a number of other criteria (linguistic and related services, staff size and composition, technologies used, etc.), Nedra Translation Agency is still amongst the Top-20 translation companies in Russia. In 2017, it became 17th in the overall ranking and the 6th among the companies that have confirmed their business data with financial and legal documents, as well as access to management accounting.

NEDRA PUBLISHERS TOOK PART IN TRANSLATION FORUM RUSSIA 2017

Specialists from Nedra Translation Agency took part in Translation Forum Russia, the 8th largest industry conference bringing together participants from all Russia, the CIS and beyond. The forum was held in Ufa between 26 and 28 May in the city Congress Hall, a unique venue capable of hosting events ranging from the largest international events at the state level (such as the SCO and BRICS summits) to industry conferences and forums.

Each year the forum brings together representatives of translation companies, Russian and international regulatory organizations, educational institutions, employers, and corporate customers.

Traditionally, the forum agenda includes more than 100 reports, presentations, workshops and networking sessions of practical and academic interest.

This year, one of the central events of the forum was a joint meeting of industry representatives and working group specialists on the development of a translator/interpreter professional standard that is urgently needed at the legislative level.

The traditional competition of the leading software developers for the translation industry attracted special attention, primarily due to the showcasing of new market developments from Russia and the near abroad. Throughout the day of 27 May, the audience of the National Business Features: Leadership Experience session shared new ideas and discussed advanced approaches to the issues of building business and promoting it in the translation market.

At first sight, the professions of medicine and translation appear far removed from one another. But they share at least one significant unifying feature. People often don’t give a thought to the practitioners of either until they are desperately needed. The two working in harmony is desirable, and translation has a great deal to offer to improve the conditions of the medical industry around the world. Translation agencies tend to offer different levels of service, depending on the audience and intent. Translation with proofreading for materials that are going to be published to a wider audience; standalone translation for internally distributed materials; and sometimes even Machine Translation ‘gisting’ for getting the rough sense of non-critical texts where speed, rather than accuracy, is the order of the day. These gradations of service essentially correspond to how high the stakes are with a particular translation assignment. It’s perfectly normal that these different levels should exist – but for the medical translation industry, the expectations are different, and the stakes are never below maximum intensity. In transmitting the meaning of texts such as those with medical devices, research documents, or pharmaceuticals, a large number of people further down the supply chain are placing their faith in the accuracy of the translator’s work.
