Team Rwanda Shined at PAMO 2021

In June 2021, six outstanding students participated in the National Awards Ceremony for Team Rwanda following their remarkable performance at the Pan-African Mathematical Olympiad (PAMO) 2021.

Despite it being Rwanda’s first time in this prestigious continental competition, Team Rwanda won 3 bronze medals, achieved first place in East Africa, and ranked 7th in Africa with a team score of 61.

The students who represented Rwanda were:

Munezero Honorine – Lycée Notre Dame de Cîteaux

Akimana Nadine – ES Byimana

Abayo Joseph Desire – ES Byimana

Mugisha Abdulkarim – RIVIERA High School

Munezero Jean Nepo – PS Ndera

Uwase Kelly – GS Saint André

This achievement was made possible through the dedication of their teachers, coaches, and the strong support from AIMS Rwanda and the University of Rwanda – Department of Mathematics.

Now the question remains:

Starting this Monday, April 28, 2025, various schools across Rwanda will begin the International Student Assessment which will run for over a month and two weeks.

This assessment, organized by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), targets secondary school students under the age of 15, focusing on mathematics, reading, and science.

The Ministry of Education through the National Examination and School Inspection Authority announced its pleasure in confirming Rwanda’s participation in the 2025 international assessment.
