7-point quality control checklist that every site supervisor should do before starting steel reinforcement work on a construction site in Pakistan.
Hereβs the breakdown of the 7 checks the engineer explains:
*1. Level Marking* - First confirm the finished floor level from the drawings. This sets the correct slab height. The engineer shows how wall markings are used to transfer this level across the site.
*2. Beam Size* - Check the beam dimensions against the structural drawings. Example given: a beam labeled B7 should be 12 inches wide at the bottom with a 21-inch overall depth, leaving 15 inches of drop after subtracting the slab thickness.
*3. Grid Lines* - Make sure all beams are placed exactly on their grid locations. The engineer demonstrates using a string line between column points to verify alignment.
*4. Thickness & Level* - Measure the slab thickness at multiple spots using a measuring tape to ensure itβs uniform β in this case it should be 6 inches with a proper zero level.
*5. Escalator Opening* - Verify that structural openings like the one for the escalator match the exact size and position mentioned in the drawing.
*6. Shuttering Joint* - Inspect plywood shuttering joints and seal any gaps properly. If you donβt, concrete will leak and cause βhoneycombing,β which weakens the structure.
*7. Dusting & Oiling* - Once the first 6 checks are complete, clean the shuttering surface thoroughly and apply shuttering oil. This gives you a smooth concrete finish and makes de-shuttering easier without damaging corners.
The closing line: _Only after these 7 checks are done should you give permission for steel fixing._
Itβs a quick, on-site guide aimed at contractors and civil engineering students to prevent common concrete defects and ensure structural accuracy.
