By far the most fun I've honestly had so far in a project haha. Wanted to share some test renders for each scene for this exploration work I'm doing for .perfume as well as my thoughts behind why I framed, lit, and composed each shot the way I did and my reasoning behind it.
One of the biggest things I struggled with in all my previous projects was that every after I finished each project, somehow they felt a bit flat. There wasn't anything that stood out, and there wasn't really a story being told through the renders, and despite the fact that I was well aware of that, I didn't know where to first start fixing.
I wanted to focus on deep storytelling this time, and this project marks the first iteration of that.
The plan is a 30s CGI product ad that tells a story of nostalgia and warmth, emphasizing the origins of the potato (soil) and moments of the early morning Polish markets. Essentially, I wanted to capture the story beautifully tells about this fragrance.
This project is far from done, with finalizations to be done to the perfume bottle materials in Blender + actually rendering the animation, then color grading, and sound designing.
As someone who only started learning CGI exactly a year ago (Jan 2025), one of the biggest challenges that I've faced was how to actually make shots look interesting, what actually made a shot look interesting, and how I can translate skills from other areas i.e. cinematography & photography into CGI.
This project would not have been possible if not for the amazing product CGI artists out there who I look up to so much and have spent the past year learning from, but more specifically for this project, .m , who served as a major creative and learning inspiration for me in this project. Love the amazing work that you do!
And with that, animation coming soon!🤞
