I am not fond of taking pictures inside Haram, especially selfies. But this has not always been the case. I have seen Haram going through massive changes. During these changes there is some also changed with time, and that is access to the internet.
I remember in 2005, when the dual camera phones started to hit the market, video calls on the phone were about to come. just before that era when I started using the we**am on Yahoo chats, I use to imagine what if I had a laptop with internet and we**am, and I could show haram to my relatives and friends through it.
As soon as the video calls got enabled on the phone, we used to do it, too. but suddenly, when the access to the internet became so much easier that the people now seem to visit Harmain only to shoot reel shots, video calling back home during tawaf or sa'ee.
The essence of visiting Haramain is no longer a priority. A picture while hands in the air posing as making dua in Ehram, running between safa Marwa stories, making selfie videos of touching the Kaaba, all of that seems to be the more important rituals then actual worship.
It's okay to take a picture or make a video, but after completing your purpose of the visit. Trust me, you will feel closer to Allah, and you will taste the sweetness of your worshipping efforts without capturing and sharing it on social media.
If you have family members planning their first or next umrah, educate them to focus on their purpose of the visit rather than recording it.
تقبل الله منا ومنكم صالح الاعمال
