A potentially deadly shooting incident in Sydney, Australia, was averted after a Muslim civilian, Ahmed El Ahmed, bravely intervened to stop an armed gunman, according to police and eyewitness accounts.
Authorities said the shooter, identified as a Pakistani national, Naveed Akram opened fire in a public area before being confronted by Ahmed, who rushed toward the attacker despite being unarmed. Ahmed was struck by two bullets during the struggle but managed to restrain the gunman, preventing further casualties and allowing police to take the suspect into custody.
Emergency services confirmed that dozens of lives may have been saved due to Ahmed’s actions, with officials hailing him as a hero whose courage stopped what could have become a mass-casualty attack.
