The Sacred Chamber. The most honoured burial place on earth. This is where the Prophet ﷺ rests. And beside him, his two closest companions – Abu Bakr RA and Umar RA. 👉 The Prophet ﷺ is buried facing the qiblah. Abu Bakr RA lies behind him, his head level with the Prophet’s ﷺ shoulders. Umar RA lies behind Abu Bakr RA, his head level with Abu Bakr’s shoulders. 👉 The chamber was originally Aisha’s RA room – where the Prophet ﷺ spent his final days, his head resting in her lap as his soul returned to Allah. And it was here he was buried. Abu Bakr RA requested to be buried beside his beloved companion. His wish was honoured. When Umar RA was martyred years later, Aisha RA gave up the space she had reserved for herself – so that he too could rest beside them. Three men. Three best friends. Side by side for eternity. 👉 The green dome was not always green. Originally unpainted, then white – only painted green in 1837 CE during the Ottoman era. Today, it’s one of the most recognisable symbols of Madinah. When you visit, remember the words of the Prophet ﷺ: “There is no one who sends salaam upon me, but Allah will restore my soul to me so that I may return his salaam.” [Abu Dawud, 2041] You are not just visiting a grave. You are greeting the one who will greet you back. May Allah grant us all the honour of standing there 🤍 Comment “umrah” for our Umrah guide and flashcards – the one resource every pilgrim needs 🕋
