What happens after just a few hours of feeling socially isolated? 🧠

Teenagers become highly motivated to seek 'rewards' – which researchers think drives us to reconnect with others.

But when this is not possible, the behaviour change could be a problem: they may seek less healthy rewards such as alcohol or drugs.

However, when isolated teens can interact with others on social media, this reward-seeking behaviour changes less dramatically.
