"What a MAGICAl night at Cannes! One of the hottest tickets during the 76th annu Cannes Film Festival this week was the tenth anniversary party an fashion show celebration of women in film presented by Magica. The tenth anniversary party for La Femme Independent Film Festival party was held at a luxury villa in Cannes - and it was a truly spectacular event. A diverse collection of stunning models walked the poolside catwalk in an incredible collection of unique one of a kind designer wear pieces. Directors, producers and actresses took the stage for a series of fascinating panels. The evening was rounded out with a hilarious set of stand up comedy and high profile guests enjoyed networking and socializing over the open bar. A huge round of applause for the woman behind it all - the incredibly accomplished and internationally impactful Magica and festival founder Maggie Anwer who does so much to elevate and support women who work in every aspect of film around the world.
Anwer addressed the crowd. She began by thanking every filmmaker for sharing their work and also expressed her gratitude to her team, saying, "Here, we work together instead of working against each other!"
"It's 2023, jealousy should disappear! I believe it is essential to support each other. I feel very happy when I help anyone succeed - especially another woman, because I feel that her success is my success, too.
We are here to encourage each other to be better! And La Femme Independent Film Festival is not only about women, it's also about the men who support women!"
The illustrious guests burst into enthusiastic applause.
Maggie went on to make important points about women in the film industry.
"We shouldn't take our freedom for granted," she said with passion. "We owe this to the women who fought for us in the past - now we have a very strong, powerful voice!"
Anwer said that she had conceived the night as a celebration of incredible art of all kinds.
"That's why I collaborated with the talented designers from the absolutely amazing BAROQCO
collection by
Eduardo & Imelda."
The fashion show truly was out of this world. The models (regularly found on high profile fsshion runways in London and Paris) were beyond beautiful, the clothes were one of a kind art pieces and the unique jewelry and head pieces had attendees in awe.
Makeup artist Dave from Seductive glamor, Annemieke from MuaH_La_TIP and Sanjay sponsored by L'Oréal Pro, and it was all captured by photographer Marcel and his team (who also took photos for Vogue Italy and many more.)
For this incredible event, Maggie also collaborated with John, the founder of GRN coin. GRN is an eco-friendly initiative that supports the environment. John spoke to the crowd and gifted every audience member with a green coin (all they had to do was keep their glass!)
A classic car drove into the villa and nestled among the palm trees to add to the glitz and glam as men in tuxes and women in ballroom gowns posed around it.
Several female filmmakers were highlighted and showcased while attendees also had the opportunity to learn from their successes via a selection of star studded panels along with screenings of nominated films at Magica Cinematheque & Marché du Film - Festival de Cannes
The first fascinating panel was
International, multi award winning director, UK based Howard J Ford, Italian producer Lorenzo Carvali, American producer Roman Jaquez and
International film producer, distributor & president of La Femme Independent Film Festival Maggie Anwer on how to develop your script , find financing to produce and best strategies to market and distribute film.
The second exciting and informative panel was with the Black Mass cast talking about their horror film with producer Michelle Romano & first time director Devanny Pinn who has appeared as an actress in over 100 horror films.
The third panel included Mag
ica's promising actors talking about the challenges that facing them as actors. With British actress Sarah Alexander, American actor Michael J.Nelson, Egyptian actor Mamoud Ellisy,
British actors Louis James, Blake Rider and Sophie and Tiffany Hannam-Daniels talking about their films.
There was also an important panel with the nominated filmmakers talking about the important issue of sexual assault and how important it is to them to use film to effect change.
The jury announced the winners and awards were given out - hosted by Michael Nelson.
Hilarious stand-up comedy by James Allen closed out that segment of the show.
The 6th edition of the glossy periodical MAG Magazine was launched.
An announcement was made that the proceeds from tickets are to go to the La Femme Royal Club - a non profit that does the incredibly important work of raising awareness and understanding about mental health issues and family crisis cases.
After it all, Maggie spoke with emotion, thanking her entire team, Barocoqo, Tarba, Kate Johnson, Mark Jr ,Maria Jame, Maria Max, Molly and Ben Pickering, Susheel KS
And the PR team of the event - Lamourie Media's Tracy Lamourie and co founder Dave Parkinson.
The evening was a great success - an elegant, classy soiree with incredible networking opportunities.
Anwer put it this way: "Our festivals are the gate for every real, honest, talented person and my slogan is
"Art is our language and our colour."
La Femme International Film Festival anniversary party was without doubt one of the hottest events during Cannes Film Festival 2023."
