Open Letter to Interior Minister Angelina Teny on plight of Juba DIPs.

Dear Honorable Minister,

I would like to bring to your attention the urgency of the situation and the need for immediate action to address the escalating violence at the Juba Internally Displaced People’s (IDP) camps.

The loss of two young lives last week and the numerous injuries are indeed distressing and highlight the critical need for increased security measures in the area.
The appropriate law enforcement and security personnel must be deployed promptly to ensure the safety and protection of the individuals residing in the camp.

Additionally, efforts must be made to address the root causes of the violence and to provide support and resources to prevent further instances of harm.
I strongly urge a swift and comprehensive response to this urgent situation to safeguard the lives and well-being of those affected.

The lack of police forces and law enforcement in the Juba IDP camps has created a severe level of insecurity for its residents.
To protect themselves from the gangs that terrorize the camp, people are forced to arm themselves with sticks and spears during the evening hours.
This desperate measure is an attempt to at least deter potential attackers and safeguard their lives.

Tragically, these makeshift defense measures are not enough to prevent incidents of violence within the camps.
The consequences of these violent encounters are dire, often resulting in multiple injuries and deaths among the residents.
It is worth noting that the daily occurrences of attacks and property theft within and around the IDP sites indicate a perpetual state of fear and vulnerability for the people living there.
The absence of a single day without an assault or looting further illustrates the prevailing dangers faced by the residents.

In summary, the Juba IDP camps suffer from a severe lack of security, with no organized police forces to enforce law and order.
This has led to a situation where the residents have to resort to arming themselves with primitive weapons to protect themselves from gangs. However, these measures are often insufficient, and a significant majority of incidents, resulting in injuries and deaths, occur within the camps.
The daily occurrence of attacks and property theft highlights the ongoing insecurity and fear experienced by the residents.

There are several benefits to go up to Jebel Kujur in Juba.

Firstly, it is a great way to get an aerial view of the city and its surroundings.
From the top of the mountain, you can see the White Nile River, the city center, and the various neighborhoods that make up Juba. This can be particularly useful for tourists who want to get their bearings and plan their itinerary.

Secondly, Jebel Kujur is a popular spot for outdoor activities such as hiking, picnicking, and bird watching. The mountain is covered in lush vegetation and is home to a variety of wildlife, including monkeys and colorful bird species.
Hiking up the mountain is a great way to stay active and enjoy the natural beauty of South Sudan.

Thirdly, Jebel Kujur has historical significance as it was once a site of resistance against British colonialism.
The mountain was used as a base by the Mau Mau rebels during the Kenyan independence struggle in the 1950s.
Visiting the site can provide insight into South Sudan's history and the struggles it has faced in achieving independence.

Lastly, going up to Jebel Kujur can be a cultural experience as well.
The local communities living at the base of the mountain often sell handicrafts and traditional foods to visitors.
Interacting with these communities can be a great way to learn about their customs and way of life.

My heartfelt condolences to the entire families, friends and colleagues of my Uncle late Gatmai Mathiang Chatiem D**g who sadly passed away in Hargesia of Somalialand on the line of duty.
His untimely shock the entire unity state Bentiu communities and special Dok community.

My Uncle was true patriot; his name will always be remembered in the annals of the history.
He fought hard and tough, giving tooth and nail to the enemies even during his last moments.

Such valour and courage is very rare and I am proud to be associated with him and so is the whole country.
I don't know the right words to say and I know that no message can take away the pain and grief.

I’m saddened that Uncle dies in this circumstance that we will never know what had happened to him in Somalia, Hargesia.

South Sudan's Upcoming Elections Face Challenges Amidst Refugee Crisis and Internal Displacement!!!

As South Sudan prepares for upcoming elections, a cloud of uncertainty hangs over the nation's political landscape.
The staggering number of citizens living in refugee camps in neighboring countries, along with those internally displaced, raises serious questions about the legitimacy and effectiveness of holding elections amidst such a dire humanitarian crisis.

Many argue that the government's focus should shift from seeking electoral legitimacy to prioritizing peace and stability, allowing citizens to return to their homeland before pursuing any democratic processes.

South Sudan's population has been significantly affected by years of conflict, ethnic tensions, and economic challenges.
As a result, a substantial portion of its citizens have been forced to flee their homes, seeking refuge in neighboring countries or becoming internally displaced within their own borders.
This situation, which has left countless families separated and communities fractured, casts doubt on the feasibility of conducting free and fair elections that accurately reflect the will of the people.

In refugee camps scattered across various countries, many South Sudanese have found themselves living in precarious conditions, far removed from the political processes of their homeland.

Their ability to participate in elections is severely limited, if not entirely absent.
Without addressing their plight and ensuring their voices can be heard, the legitimacy of any election outcome will undoubtedly be called into question.

Internally displaced individuals within South Sudan face similar challenges.
With the ongoing conflict preventing them from returning to their homes, their engagement in the political process becomes a complex issue. Holding elections in areas marked by displacement could lead to skewed representation and further deepen divisions within the nation.

Critics argue that the government's focus on conducting elections could be misplaced.
Rather than seeking electoral legitimacy, it is imperative for South Sudan's leadership to prioritize efforts towards achieving lasting peace, reconciliation, and the safe return of its citizens.

A legitimate government should be based on fostering an environment where citizens can participate in a democratic process without fear, coercion, or displacement.

Elections conducted in the midst of displacement may inadvertently deepen existing divides and exacerbate tensions, potentially leading to further instability.

Therefore, many believe that the primary focus should be on creating conditions that allow displaced citizens to return to their homes, rebuild their lives, and engage in the nation's democratic processes when they are genuinely able to do so.

In conclusion, South Sudan's upcoming elections face formidable challenges due to the widespread displacement of its citizens.

The plight of those in refugee camps and the internally displaced population cannot be overlooked, as their absence from the electoral process undermines the credibility and inclusivity of any election outcome.

Rather than prioritizing elections for the sake of political legitimacy, South Sudan's government must place the restoration of peace and the safe return of its citizens as prerequisites for any further democratic exercises.

Only then can the nation hope to achieve a legitimate government that truly represents the interests and aspirations of all its people.
