12-19 October. Yay! This week it´s Cassette Week 2025! (yes, it´s true - check it out)
Therefore - a little left over spotify rant from.. let's say cassette week 2024 or so. So last year I know, but I´m turning more and more into a full blood cassette label, copying inserts and cutting j-cards every night, and that´s for a reason.
When listening to something served to you from a cloud it gives you nothing but alienation. Memberships, personalised lists which are not about you, but them - eating your data. Questioning how much you are prepared to pay year on year to have access to things you don't own. I know you know; “physical is on the up” has been headlines for years. It´s better for the environment, better for you and your stressed out anxiety kids, but for me the most important part is that cassettes gives diy artists a chanse to exist on the same permissions as the giants, without no other access in the music business than their product.
Format might not be perfect for all, yes there are blue tooth walkmans on the market these days, but the best cassette players are still those top brands from the 80´s (the value is how it´s going to hold up against the clock). Keep this in mind: No streaming services from the 90´s are around today, no digital formats from the 80´s are being used and in the late 70´s Daníel Ek´s old man was still a virgin. Although a proper cassette player from that time still kicks ass.
Cassettes have what's missing in modern music - connection. Quit your spotify account and you'll save enough to afford a top of the line-cassette player in less than a year. Analogue will always show you the music how it´s supposed to sound, you could say this is what´s left of humanity meeting music. No shady tech companies analyzing your every day listening habits in order to earn money on you. Let´s take back control. Let´s take back fun, good sound and value of music. Vinyl is final - Cassette is superior!
HAPPY CASSETTE WEEK Y´ALL! (Btw, that collection has grown since the picture was taken - check out inatbakat.bandcamp.com)
