Kalmar Union (1397 - 1523)
Union with Denmark and Norway: In 1397, Sweden entered the Kalmar Union, a political entity that united Denmark, Norway, and Sweden under a single monarch. The union aimed to counteract the influence of the Hanseatic League.
Struggles for Independence: Internal conflicts and power struggles eventually led to Sweden’s secession from the Kalmar Union in 1523.
