This weekend I tried something a little different 🎮🎶
I composed game music at the 2026 Global Game Jam, hosted at Game Habitat in Malmö.

In just three days we were split into teams and challenged to create a complete game around the theme “masked”

I finished the music in about four hours however 🎶🤓 and decided to spent the rest of the jam helping our graphic designer get all the visuals done, teamwork at its finest! 👾

What really struck me is how different composing for games is compared to my background in classical music. In the game industry, composers are more like music producers, and you’re usually expected to know how to implement your own music into the game. Since that’s still new territory for me, our programmer jumped in and handled the implementation for me, another great reminder of how collaborative game development really is.

Huge shoutout to and for creating such a welcoming space for creativity, learning, and experimentation. Events like these make it so easy to step outside your comfort zone and try something new, and I’m already looking forward to next time ✨🎮

This Saturday, three different trains took me and my husband across Sweden to a farm where we would meet our new family member, Gizmo 🐾

The last train we took was a Krösatåg ( a regional train that runs through the countryside in southern Sweden ) and they are often named after cultural icons. And ours was named after the Swedish composer Alice Tegnér!

I felt so happy stepping onto that train, because I grew up playing her songs on the piano when I was a beginner. And riding her train to a wool farm felt even more special since her most famous song is about a sheep and its wool ”Bä bä vita lamm” 🐑✨

Some journeys really feel meant to be. 🐇🎶

After I accidentally dropped an ancient Chinese plate at home, Björn suddenly passed away. Then the renovation chaos began and on top of the creepy grave that we found hidden under our floor and skeleton bones, we discovered so much mold in the house that we had to move out. It almost felt as if that Chinese plate had cast an ancient curse on us, leaving us with such an awful end to 2025.

So we decided to leave everything behind and escape to our friends in Stockholm for New Year’s. I don’t really do New Year’s resolutions, but I do have expectations!

Because in just a few weeks, our renovation will finally be finished, complete with a brand-new kitchen 🏡✨ And we’re also very excited to share that an angora rabbit will soon be joining our family 🐰🤍

So cheers to fresh starts and good things ahead! ✨🥂

Quick reminder to send some Christmas cards to your past teachers as well 🎄
They’re always excited to hear about their students lives after graduation! And it doesn’t matter if you “made it” professionally or if music is just something you do in your spare time, they’ll be happy to hear from you either way because it means they were part of someone’s journey ❤️

Two years ago, I ran into my elementary school teacher and she told me she still has a drawing I made for her at home. She said that every time she sees it, she wonders if I grew up to become an artist. You never really know how much the small things mean to someone, even years later ✨🎨

So remember, a card in the mailbox is worth more than 100 Facebook messages 😜

This Friday I visited a school and heard the children sing my newly written Christmas song for an audience! Honestly, nothing beats composing for children. They’re admired me like puppies, showered me with compliments and were so excited about my visit that they came running in for hugs as soon as I arrived! You definitely don’t get that kind of reception from professional musicians 🤣

Right now I’m working from my bed, freelancing full-time with several commissions on the table. With my sheet music on my laptop, a sleepy Björn by my side and the Christmas tree glowing in the background, it truly feels like I’m living my dream! ✨🎶

I tell you what, one of my biggest dreams is to have my piece “Marsh of the Reindeer” professionally recorded by a full orchestra and brought to life with a stop-motion music video!
I can see it so vividly in my mind: something warm, magical, whimsical… the kind of media that could become a Christmas tradition to watch on the TV every year.

The vision is alive, and I know that someday, somehow, it will happen. ✨🎶🦌

Incredibly, my trip to Hitchin has been the first time I ever travelled alone abroad! ✨ After my visit to Benslow Music, I squeezed in a one-day adventure to central London before heading home — and it was absolutely worth it! 🇬🇧💫

"I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so that I can do art and writing, not for AI to do my art and writing so that I can do my laundry and dishes." - Joanna Maciejewska

I’ve been stuck thinking about this quote since it first was published a few months ago. AI have already become a huge part of our everyday lives. For example, have you noticed the AI generated newsletters in your mailbox? Or AI generated product packaging in your fridge? Or perhaps, you’ve talked to an AI assistant at a customer support?

It’s all over the place, and it’s here to stay!

I have noticed how young artists around me are afraid that the AI might take their dream jobs away from them before they’ve even completed their exams in art. But I look at it from a different perspective, what if the AI can create new job opportunities for me as an artist?

My curiosity has led me into a participation in a study research about how new smart technology affects the creative process for artists. In this study I’ve taken a deeper dive into new technology and digital software developed for music creation. And so far, I can ensure you that the AI is taste less without a great touch of my own creativity!

But then again, an AI that could do my laundry would be more appreciated than an AI that can make my art.

Below: AI generated photo of me wearing a colourful suit and doing a cool pose.
