Kronofonka returns to its ritualistic roots and releases 52 new EP’s in 2024.

In the first Kronofonika project of 2010, 253 and Kolthrast made one new song for each day of the year, as a sort of experiment, an open sketchbook. I think it’s fair to say that the results were mixed. But nonetheless interesting!

Since then we have transformed and evolved with Kronofonika, the cassette label perhaps being the pinnacle. Through which we have facilitated the ongoing rediscovery of the previously almost completely forgotten Swedish 90s rave scene found in ”The Finspång Sound” and launched artists like Yukiko Jansson and Dyngherren to an even smaller audience than they had before. An endeavor we have no plans of retiring, we remain committed to being Europe’s number one destination for artist’s artists and pseudo-intellectual discourse in music form distributed through cassette tapes.

But alongside the unfolding rolls of tape we have felt an urge to rekindle the ritualistic flame that got us started, so for this year (of our lord) 2024, we decided to make a weekly procession of split EPs, a hyper sigil of sorts. Each installment features the work of two artists, our own projects and invited guests, as arcane and indecipherable as always. The EPs themselves will be distributed exclusively through streaming services, a medium just shy of the cassette in terms of time it takes to get a release out. So no physical media, all that is solid melts into air. For no immediately apparent reason we are calling this series “Kronofonisch Kronophon”.

We have found over the years that through quantity comes quality. In spontaneity lies the subconscious and (sometimes) the purest of forms, momentum as a way to transcend! Although we can not promise any transcendental experiences for the listener we hope you will come along for the “ride”, preferably enjoying what you experience or failing that, any other discernible emotion. See you on the other side.
