Children who ran for freedom.
Women who carried hope.
Men, young and old, who went into the streets with nothing but their voices.
And they were met with bullets and cruelty.
When Iran’s regime shut down the internet and cut the country off from the world,
more than 36,500 unarmed civilians were killed in only 2 days.
They were on the streets because they refused to stay silent.
Families waited for weeks outside morgues just to see their dead.
Some were forced to pay large sums to retrieve the bodies of their loved ones.
Others were never allowed to say goodbye.
Tears were met with threats. Grief was punished.
Doctors who treated injured children and protesters were arrested, put on trial,
and some were sentenced to death for the crime of saving lives.
This is not statistics.
These are shattered futures.
Empty rooms.
Broken families and dreams silenced in darkness.
Iran is bleeding in the dark right now behind shutdown networks and turned away eyes.
