It's been five years! Unbelievable! In the early days of the pandemic, on April 24th, 2020, these two very personal cover tribute albums were released.

On one hand, a tribute to one of my all-time favorites among producers and songwriters - Michael Cretu. The album features Paul Rein, Octolab, Cliff Wedge, Knight$, Peter Wilson, Electric City Cowboys, Francesca e Luigi and many more, covering classic songs originally performed by Cretu himself and by Sandra, Hubert KaH, Peter Schilling, Moti Special and Enigma.

On the other hand, a tribute to what I love the most - Swedish 80s pop music! We find for example Saft, 1984, Martin Blix, Obsession of Time, Evan and The Lovers of Valdaro in the lineup of artists giving new life to a couple of my all-time favorite tracks, like "Brick" (Fake), "Lady O" (Paul Rein), "Point of View" (Nasa) and "Ut i natten" (Noice), to mention a few.

Revisit these collections of amazingness today, five years upon their release.

At the moment, Kent is the name on (almost) every Swedish lips, as the iconic electro/rock band is currently performing a series of "resurrection concerts" to sold-out crowds in Stockholm.

In light of that temporary resurrection, a temporary connection also takes place. Two of Sweden’s contemporary synthpop acts – Radiohimlen and SCALA – will release a joint cover of "Celsius" by Kent, in collaboration with pbhmedia on Friday, April 4.

“Peter Johansson och Helena Wigeborn hade lagt grundarbetet för att få till en elektronisk cover av en underskattad låt. När vi blev tillfrågade att komma in i bilden blev det en duett med vår typiskt storslagna sångproduktion” säger Radiohimlens sångare Liam Strand.

Peter Johansson från SCALA säger så här om samarbetet: “Vi hade en spelning tillsammans med Radiohimlen i höstas där Helena skulle gästa deras ’Brevroman’. I utbyte tänkte vi att det skulle vara kul om de haka på en Kent-cover fast som en duett. Redan på soundchecken kom skivbolagsdirektör Niclas Blyh och skrek ‘Detta måste släppas!’ – så här är resultatet”.

För snart 28 år sedan släpptes låten på hyllade Kent-albumet ”Isola”, som känns igen för sitt gula flygplansomslag. ”Som en hommage till det så ville vi skapa något liknande. Resultatet blev ett isblått foto där två barn fascineras av planet, precis som vi fascineras av Kent”, säger Radiohimlens Carl Holmqvist som skapat omslaget tillsammans med fotografen Victor Bomgren.
