British Airways’ A319ceo, adorned in the retro British European Airways (BEA) livery, on takeoff roll at Hamburg’s Fuhlsbuettel Airport. (IATA: HAM, ICAO: EDDH)

The special retro livery was unveiled to mark the 100th anniversary of the airline’s founding and was on all BEA aircraft serving domestic and European routes from 1959 to 1968.

Weather during the month of December in Hamburg isn’t a joke. Freezing winds, dull skies and the occasional pelting of misting rain just distracts you from the true beauty of the city.

While I braved the heavy storm at the light tower down by the pier of Airbus’ Finkenwerder Assembly Plant, my prayers for a break in the weather was heard. The clouds momentarily paused its downpour while allowing sufficient sunlight to pierce through.

Making way for this China Southern A321NEO (registered D-AVYV, MSN 12322) arriving back from an air-test.

As I stood in my hotel room, gazing out of the window carrying the disappointment of bad weather forecasted for Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.

I thought to myself that today’s gonna be a waste for the weather isn’t ideal. Just as I reaffirmed my decision on cancelling that day’s trip to AMS, the low lying clouds parted and released the sheer intense sunlight hiding above.

Joining the amazing view was an Airbus A320 on approach. Not wasting any time, I whipped my camera’s power switch and fired a burst of shots as the aircraft passes across the window.

At that moment, I stood corrected and off to Buitenveldertbaan I went.

As we made our way back to the terminal, buzzing from a day of thrilling airside photography at the World’s Best Airport, I couldn’t help but marvel at the success of the inaugural Sky Watchers event, organised by Changi Airport Group. This extraordinary opportunity, usually restricted to most, marked a groundbreaking moment, opening doors to future partnerships between the airport and local aviation photographers. A huge shoutout to the dedicated team at CMC CAG for making it all happen.
