Tree Life in Tulum by

Location: Tulum,

“The “Tree Life” in Tulum was born from the clients desire to generate a new experience. From a conceptual point of view, in DNA we always aim towards the fusion between art and technology and in this case, we sought the fusion between nature and architecture, which generates the word, as we call it in DNA, “Archi-Nature”.In this way, we take inspiration from the bird's nests, and from them our design process in DNA begins.

Kemilau Canggu is a hotel renovation project whose scope of work includes rearranging floor plans, facades, and building interiors. The initial condition of this building has been divided into several rooms, a lobby, and 1 house as a villa. The arrangement of openings in each room is not good, making air circulation and light very poor. The condition of the room becomes dark and uncomfortable. In addition, because this building is a semi-finished building that was later abandoned by the previous owner, many functions of the space do not yet exist such as a kitchen, office, and service room.

COVID-19 has fundamentally altered the way we view workplace design. It presents an opportunity to rethink how to design environments that promote well-being while encouraging socialisation. Girassol Building presented an opportunity for Sao Paulo-based practice, FGMF to rethink the office typology, and their response is a new anti-corporate project.

Rethinking the conventional format of an office building, the new office building located in Vila Madalena — a prime area of the capital — proposes what architects describe as ‘gentle architecture.’

The five-storey building features shifting volumes which create a dynamic silhouette for the office. The aim was to integrate the building into its urban environment to present a gentle response for the passers-by through its many green terraces. Resembling a green oasis when viewed from the top, the building is a harmonic set of geometric angles forming many outdoor spaces on multiple levels – some covered and some not.

‘Tours Duo’ recently completed by in

The essential principle of the urban program – the transverse fracture and the creation of a central plaza between the two buildings that preserves views toward the Berliet industrial building – is respected and accentuated by the inclined buildings which cooperate to form an open V of sunlight.

These are urban buildings; at ground level the public balcony overlooking the railway faces Ivry; along its edge is a large brasserie with a terrace. The terrace gives access to the hotel and the office tower and accommodates shops in the form of kiosks that rhythm the large space at the intersection of the avenue de France and the boulevard du Général Jean-Simon.

Location Yinchuan, China

Yinchuan city, in the north-central part of China, is characterised by the cold-desert type climate, having long winters and short summers. The Nanbo Bay Reception Centre site lies adjacent to the China Yinchuan Cultural Park, north of Nanbo Bay. The 4930-square metre building is a multi-space sales office of C&D real estate company that will be converted into a community centre for residential development later.

The architecture here borrows from Nature and creates two symbolic leaf-shaped roofs; as homage to Nature, the building is constructed as a transparent and lightweight structure. However, once inside, the real experiential quality of the building unfolds for the visitors. Shenzhen-based, Sunson Design has created biophilic-inspired interiors, mimicking a miniature rainforest of unexpected proportions. Characterised by mainly glass and perforated aluminium panels on the exterior, the descent into the main reception area goes through 'hall of time', a tall narrow cylindrical volume — blank, dark, mysterious — in stark contrast with the light that the reception area represents.

The Grand Stair

Project:

Photo:

Location: Canberra, Australia⁣

Located in New Acton, a diverse new precinct in Canberra, Nishi Commercial is a major development housing government departments, private offices, a cinema and cafés. The lobby and ground floor spaces, designed by March Studio, projects a unique identity through thousands of lengths of re purposed timber, blurring boundaries while directing views and movement.

A grand stair - the stage for performances as much as idle procrastination - leads up to the Hotel Hotel lobby and bar. In the stair the timber is heavy, grounded, a stacked agglomeration. Freed to scatter up the walls and across the ceiling, the suspended timber filters exterior light and views into and from internal spaces. Spidery, pixelated shadows are cast on the floor and bare walls.

The Wall of Being Residence 🌿

The introduction of open to sky courtyard and koi pond evoke one’s collective memory of traditional houses of Malabar. The sunset garden between the courtyard and koi pond, on the first floor, beside a large opening to the west side, performs as an elevated portico at the centre of the house to enjoy the afternoon sun.

As a solution to ensure privacy, an inward-looking plan was adopted from which the idea of an abutting wall was conceived. Abutting wall –“The wall of being”, plays as a canvas depicting one’s roots and cultural background, from which the three-dimensional volume of the house emerges.

A central axis is maintained in parallel to the “wall of being” at both the ground floor and the first floor enabling a seamless dialogue with all spaces at the same time establishing optimum segregation and privacy.

The presence of an abutting wall without any window openings at the west side of the house created the challenge of having cramped spaces. To tackle it, multiple indoor-outdoor double-height volumes were introduced and other spaces of the house are placed interspersing to it.
