To All my fellow people involve in the music industry business
Today, I stand before you with a heavy heart but an unwavering spirit. I want to address a topic that weighs on my mind—something that many of us experience but seldom discuss openly: the feeling of being looked down upon, especially when pursuing our passions.
In the world of music, I have encountered my fair share of skeptics—those who, perhaps out of ignorance or their own insecurities, fail to recognize the depth of my knowledge in music operation and music law. They see only what they want to see, unable to grasp the complexities of this beautiful art form and the intricate legalities that underpin it. It can be disheartening, to say the least.
I have devoted countless hours to studying the nuances of music, diving deep into its history, its theory, and, yes, its law. Music is not just a hobby for me; it is a calling—a profound journey that I am passionately pursuing. Yet, there are moments when I feel the weight of doubt cast upon me by those who cannot see beyond their preconceived notions. It is a lonely feeling, to work so hard and to be met with dismissal.
But I want to be clear: I do not harbor resentment towards my haters. Instead, I choose to respond with understanding and compassion. I understand that their inability to recognize my knowledge stems from their own limitations. It is not a reflection of my worth or my capabilities. I firmly believe that education and knowledge are the true keys to success, and I am committed to unlocking my potential, no matter the obstacles in my path.
I stand here today, not to boast about my achievements or to seek validation, but to remind myself and all of you that perseverance in the face of adversity is what defines us. It is easy to be swayed by the negativity of others, but I choose to rise above it. I choose to focus on my growth, my learning, and my passion for music.
So, to all my fellow dreamers out there, I urge you: do not let the naysayers dim your light. Dive deep into your passions, educate yourselves, and embrace the challenges that come your way. Knowledge will be your ally, and it will guide you toward your goals.
Before you to shed light on a crucial aspect of our creative ecosystem—one that impacts independent companies and artists striving to leave their mark on the world. It is a truth we must confront, a reality that often goes unspoken, yet demands our attention.
In our pursuit of art, music, and literature, we often find ourselves navigating a complex landscape filled with codes and classifications—ISRC, UPC, EAN, and the elusive barcode. These identifiers, while essential to the mainstream music and publishing industries, can sometimes feel like barriers rather than gateways for independent artists. They represent a world that operates on rules we may not fully understand or have access to.
But today, I want to emphasize something profoundly important: the absence of these codes does not diminish your value. As independent creators, you possess a unique power—one that transcends the conventional metrics of success defined by industry giants. Your voice, your vision, and your creativity are not defined by numbers or affiliations.
Let us take a moment to reflect on what it means to be an independent artist. You are pioneers, forging your own paths and telling your own stories. You create art that resonates with the human experience, that challenges the status quo, and that inspires others to think differently. You are not bound by the constraints of corporate structures or the expectations of the mainstream. You are free to create authentically, and that is your greatest strength.
Now, while it may be tempting to view the lack of affiliation with organizations like the IFPI as a setback, I urge you to reconsider. These traditional hallmarks of the industry do not validate your work or your worth. Instead, they serve as a reminder that the creative landscape is evolving. The rise of independent platforms, social media, and digital distribution has democratized access to audiences, allowing you to reach listeners and readers directly.
In this new paradigm, the emphasis is shifting from institutional validation to authentic connection. It is no longer about fitting into a predetermined box; it is about standing out and being true to yourself. Your art does not need a barcode to be meaningful. It does not require an international code to touch hearts. What matters is the impact you make on your audience and the communities you build around your work.
I understand that human nature often drives us to seek validation and recognition. We want our efforts to be acknowledged, and we want to believe that our art holds the same weight as that of established institutions. But I urge you to embrace the journey of self-discovery and self-empowerment. Take pride in your independence! Your work is a testament to your resilience and passion.
As we move forward, let us foster a spirit of collaboration and support among ourselves. Let us create networks where independent artists can uplift one another, share resources, and celebrate our collective achievements. Together, we can advocate for a more inclusive industry—one that recognizes the value of all voices, regardless of their affiliations or codes.
In closing, remember this: you are not defined by what you lack; you are defined by what you create and the impact you have on the world around you. Embrace your independence, nurture your creativity, and continue to share your unique perspectives.
Thank you for being here today, and for being the driving force of innovation and authenticity in our world. Let us move forward together, united in our passion for art and creativity!
As I continue on my journey in music, I do so armed with the understanding that true success is not measured by the opinions of others, but by the impact we make in our fields and the joy we find in our pursuits. I may be looked down upon now, but I know that my knowledge and dedication will ultimately speak for themselves.
Thank you for your time and for allowing me to share my thoughts with you today. Let us all keep striving, keep learning, and keep creating.
