The name of 1200°c is based on the key temperature of firing ceramics ware, that is when the glaze and pigments fused
to the ceramic body. With the market shrinking relentlessly for the past two decades, the ceramics industry of Malaysia was put to the test. To many, the pottery of Ipoh was once famous on an international level alongside tin and rubber. Local manufacturers were producing a million ceramics ware per month and shipping to numerous foreign markets around the globe. Tan Vooi Yam was the third-generation owner of one of the oldest ceramic manufacturers in Ipoh - C. The company was established around 80 years ago and he worked there for more than 30 years. Tan Vooi Yam was the main designer to these products. Besides producing daily wares in the factory, Mr. Tan Vooi Yam was heavily associated in pottery art. He had attended many workshops and exhibitions throughout the years, making it to the local newspapers on many occasions. Following the closure of the company in 2020, Mr. Tan Vooi Yam dives deeper into his familiar field of pottery, combining experiences from both production and art to create something much closer to life - tableware.
