After Sun Wu Kong’s departure, Tang Seng, Zhu Bajie and Sha Heshang hurried on. A few days later, they came to the Black Forest and Tang Seng sent Zhu Bajie to find some food to eat. As Zhu Bajie walked, he started to feel a bit tired and lay down on a patch of grass to rest, falling asleep as a result. Tang Seng, upon noticing that Zhu Bajie had disappeared for far too long, decided to venture into the forest alone.

In the forest, he saw a pagoda and walked up to it. A beautiful young lady walked out of the pagoda. She was actually the princess of the Kingdom of BaoXiang who had been captured by the Yellow Robe Monster and hidden in a cave. She begged him to notify the Kingdom of BaoXiang and send people to come save her. Hence, Tang Seng, together with the other two disciples, went to the Kingdom of BaoXiang and told them about the princess’ plight.

The king was deeply saddened and requested the same three to save the princess. Tang Seng sent Zhu Bajie and Sha Heshang to challenge the Yellow Robe Monster. But who could’ve known that neither of them was the monster’s match, for Sha Heshang was captured and Zhu Bajie only barely managed to escape.

At that, the Yellow Robe Monster shapeshifted into a strong young man and came to the Kingdom of BaoXiang, framing Tang Seng as the real Yellow Robe Monster who captured the princess, then using magic to turn Tang Seng into a tiger. The king was scared out of his wits and believed in the Yellow Robe Monster. A few brave soldiers rushed forward and tied up Tiger Tang Seng, trapping him in a cage.

[“BEATING UP THE WHITE BONE SPIRIT FOR THE THIRD TIME!”]

After Tang Seng’s and his disciples’ departure from Wuzhuang Guan Temple, they came to a barren hill. Tang Seng felt a bit hungry so he requested Sun Wu Kong to find something to eat. Sun Wu Kong lifted himself into the sky with his staff in hand. He observed from the skies while riding on a cloud and noticed a peach forest in the south. Sun Wu Kong was overjoyed, speeding across the sky towards the forest to pick some peaches.

However, in that forest lived a monster called the White Bone Spirit who knew Tang Seng was going to pass by that direction on his journey and wanted to eat his meat. Upon seeing Sun Wu Kong leaving the forest, the White Bone Spirit transformed itself into a beautiful young woman carrying some food and approached Tang Seng.

The White Bone Spirit pretended to be fetching Tang Seng something to eat and planned to kidnap him during the confusion. When “she” saw Tang Seng and his disciples, “she” invited them to eat. Although Tang Seng politely declined the young woman’s invitation, Zhu Bajie had been so famished that he was drooling and couldn’t help but reach for the food.

At that moment, Sun Wu Kong had also returned with some peaches. Sun Wu Kong knew that the woman was indeed a spirit in disguise with just one look so he lifted his golden staff high and beat her up. The White Bone Spirit used its magic and left a fake carcass on the ground, then escaping by transforming into a gust of wind and flying away.

Tang Seng thought Sun Wu Kong killed an innocent person and was livid, wanting to drive off Sun Wu Kong. Sun Wu Kong kneeled on the ground and explained the situation, imploring for forgiveness. Tang Seng decided not to drive him away but only under the condition that Sun Wu Kong would no longer kill people.

The White Bone Spirit, after escaping, came back as an old lady holding a walking cane and approached Tang Seng yet again. Sun Wu Kong saw through the disguise and beat the spirit for the second time. The spirit used its magic to escape once more, leaving behind the unmoving body of the old lady.

Tang Seng saw Sun Wu Kong kill yet another innocent person and recited the Incitation of the Golden Hoop, tightening Sun Wu Kong’s golden headband so much that Sun Wu Kong was writhing on the ground in agony. When Tang Seng wanted to drive away Sun Wu Kong again, Sun Wu Kong implored persistently, asking for forgiveness. Tang Seng reluctantly let Sun Wu Kong stay by his side but yet again, under the condition that he would no longer kill people.

HOWEVER, that (annoying) White Bone Spirit transformed again into an old man standing on the top of the hill, chanting the Buddhist scripture while sobbing. Sun Wu Kong recognized the spirit yet again and was filled with flames of fury. (who wouldn’t? This is the third time!) Fueled by his anger and annoyance, Sun Wu Kong finally managed to kill off the White Bone Spirit but was yet again misunderstood by Tang Seng, who forcefully drove Sun Wu Kong away.

Sun Wu Kong, left with no other choice, could only pray to Tang Seng and exhort Zhu Bajie and Sha Heshang to protect Tang Seng. He then left for his old home, the Mountain of Flowers and Fruits.

[“STEALING SOME MAN FRUITS”]

Time flew like an arrow and soon, Tang Seng and his disciples came to Longevity Hill. At the top of the hill stood the Wuzhuang Guan Temple. Inside the temple lived a Taoist Deity named Zhenyuan Daxian. That day, Zhenyuan Daxian had some urgent errands to attend to and therefore was not home.

Tang Seng and his disciples came to the front of the temple and met the two children Qingfeng and Mingyue (LUNA’S CHINESE NAME XD) who welcomed them inside the temple and offered some man-fruits they picked for Tang Seng to eat. However, the man fruits looked like little children and Tang Seng immediately refused, saying,

“I am a monk, I don’t eat children!”

Mingyue explained,

“This isn’t a human, it’s a man-fruit. This kind of fruit is only bore once every 9000 years. As long as you eat one, you can live for another 67,000 years!”

But no matter what Mingyue said, Tang Seng still vehemently refused to eat the fruit. At last, the two children took the fruits away.

Zhu Bajie had been craving those fruits so much that he was drooling. Seeing as his master didn’t eat the man-fruits, he instigated Sun Wu Kong to go and steal some fruits to taste. At night, Sun Wu Kong sneakily came to the tree which bore the man-fruits and picked 3 of them to take back and share with Zhu Bajie and Sha Heshang.

The next day, Qingfeng and Mingyue noticed that the number of man-fruits had decreased while making their rounds and went to inform Tang Seng. Tang Seng was upset and scolded Sun Wu Kong harshly. Sun Wu Kong, dissatisfied, ran to the garden and used his golden staff to beat down the tree, at last uprooting it.

At that moment, Zhenyuan Daxian came back. He was livid when he saw that his tree was uprooted. Tang Seng immediately apologised to Zhenyuan Daxian but he wouldn’t accept the apology and was dead set on punishing all 4 of them. Sun Wu Kong didn’t want to incriminate Tang Seng and therefore asked Zhenyuan Daxian to punish him only.

Zhenyuan Daxian used a leather whip to whip Sun Wu Kong but he wasn’t hurt at all. Sun Wu Kong took out his golden staff and hurled it towards Zhenyuan Daxian. Zhenyuan Daxian, with his unlimited power, with the swish of his hands, captured Sun Wu Kong and the others, leaving Sun Wu Kong with no choice but to find a way to resurrect the man-fruit tree within three days.

Sun Wu Kong searched far and wide for a way to resurrect the man-fruit tree but to no avail. He had ridden on his cloud to ask several other Taoist deities but they all told him that there was no way to resurrect the tree. Left with no choice, Sun Wu Kong had to request for help from Guanyin yet again. Guanyin took out her bottle and poured something called the ‘Elixir of Life’ over the soil.

To everyone’s (except Guanyin’s) shock, the man-fruit tree was alive! Zhenyuan Daxian was overjoyed, inviting Tang Seng, his disciples and other immortal deities to taste the man-fruits. At last he also became sworn buddies with Sun Wu Kong. 👯‍♂️

As Sun Wu Kong and Tang Seng continued on with their journey, they came to the Eagle Valley. Suddenly, a white (might I add, beautiful?) dragon shot up from the bottom of the valley and swallowed Tang Seng’s horse up! Sun Wu Kong was enraged. He brandished his staff and started a fight with the dragon.

At the most intense part of the fight, Guanyin arrived and the white dragon turned into a young man. He kneeled in front of Tang Seng and paid homage to him. As it turned out, this dragon was actually one of the Dragon King of the West Ocean’s three sons.

After making a mistake, he was punished and sent to Eagle Valley to wait for Tang Seng. Guanyin turned the white dragon into a white horse for Tang Seng to ride on during his journey to the west as a way to make the dragon-turned-horse atone for his crime. At that, Tang Seng, Sun Wu Kong and White Dragon-Horse (cool name, huh 😎) bid Guanyin farewell and continued on with their journey.

That evening, they came to a village called Gaolaozhuang. There lived an old grandfather and his daughter. Three years ago, they had mistakenly taken in a monster as a son-in-law whom they kept hidden in a small room in their backyard. The grandfather was extremely sad but did not know what to do.

Sun Wu Kong told the grandfather,
“Rest assured; I will definitely catch that monster! Bring me to the room in your backyard!”

Sun Wu Kong, after rescuing the old grandfather’s daughter, disguised himself as her and sat in the room. When the monster returned at midnight, Sun Wu Kong transformed back into himself. The monster recognized him as the monkey who made a ruckus in heaven and ran away, Sun Wu Kong at his heels.

The monster ran to a hill but Sun Wu Kong still caught up to it. Seeing as it had no way of escaping, it had no choice but to take out a nine-toothed rake to fight Sun Wu Kong. After fighting a few rounds, it was obvious that the monster was not a fair opponent to Sun Wu Kong for Sun Wu Kong easily defeated it and brought it in for interrogation.

Surprisingly, it was an immortal god from heaven but because he had committed a crime, he was forced to descend to the human world and was reborn with a pig figure. Guanyin made him Tang Seng’s disciple who would accompany him to the West to atone for his crimes, like the White Dragon-Horse. Upon hearing that, Tang Seng was overjoyed to have him accompany him on the journey and gave him the name “Zhu Bajie”. Zhu Bajie loved that name and was quick to get along with everyone.

A few days later, Tang Seng and his disciples came to a deep river with rushing currents, which blocked their path. That river was called Sha He River and a monster lived in it. The monster jumped out of the river menacingly, wanting to eat up Tang Seng. Sun Wu Kong, possibly for the fourth time during the whole journey, Zhu Bajie fought the monster.

With their combined efforts, the monster could not counter their attacks and therefore hid in the river, not wanting to come out. Still, the group could not cross the river and Sun Wu Kong decided to ask Guanyin to help them again. Guanyin told him that the monster, like Zhu Bajie, was also an immortal general from heaven who had committed a crime and was sent down here.

Guanyin then beckoned the monster to come out of the river and accompany the group to the west. Tang Seng gave the monster the name “Sha Heshang” after the river he lived in. After that, Sha Heshang helped them cross the river and accompanied them.

How time flies! 500 years have flown by and the second emperor of the Tang Dynasty dispatched the monk Tang Seng to the West Heavens to fetch some scriptures. That day, Tang Seng came across the 5 mountains and saw a monkey’s head poking out of a rock at the foot of a mountain. The monkey called out to Tang Seng loudly,
“Master, master! Please save me! I can help you get to the West Heavens!”

Tang Seng asked,
“But how can I help you get out?”

Sun Wu Kong replied frantically,
“Master, all you have to do is tear off the markings on the top of the mountain, then I’m free!”

Tang Seng lifted his head and, rather expectedly, saw the markings. He reached the top of the mountain and tore off the markings gently. At that, a loud, almost ear-deafening sound could be heard and Sun Wu Kong hopped out from the foot of the mountain. He then proceeded to kneel in front of Tang Seng and pray to him. After that, the duo continued their journey to the West Heavens.

The duo, master and disciple, walked for a few days more and came across a vast forest. All of a sudden, a few bandits emerged from the forest, wanting to steal their luggage. Sun Wu Kong brandished his golden staff and gave the bandits a good beating, even killing some of them. Tang Seng was infuriated and he reprimanded Sun Wu Kong,
“How could you kill those people without a second thought?! How will you become a monk if you’re killing innocent people!”

Sun Wu Kong was most disgruntled at that. He was both angered and guilty because of Tang Seng’s scolding and therefore, walked off impulsively, leaving Tang Seng to lead his horse and continue on alone.

After a while of walking, Tang Seng met the disguised Guanyin, who gave him a set of clothes and a golden headband to give to Sun Wu Kong. She also introduced Tang Seng to the ‘Incantation of the Golden Hoop’, which would help Tang Seng keep Sun Wu Kong in check.

Sun Wu Kong had travelled a considerable length before reconsidering his decision. Feeling guilty that he had left his master behind, he decided to go back to Tang Seng.
Tang Seng gave Sun Wu Kong the set of clothes and the golden headband for him to wear. He then recited the Incantation of the Golden Hoop, which immediately turned the headband into a gold bind. It tightened around Sun Wu Kong’s head, giving him the agonizing sensation of his head splitting open. Sun Wu Kong held his head in pain, yelling for mercy,
“Master, I’ll sincerely protect you on the way to the West! Please!”

Tang Seng stopped chanting upon hearing that and Sun Wu Kong’s head no longer hurt. After that, Sun Wu Kong did not dare to disobey Tang Seng.

“We’re going to work, please take care of our son,”

Jason’s mother told Jason’s babysitter, Tatiana. Tatiana smiled and nodded. She carried Jason, who just turned 5, in her arms and rocked him. As soon as she heard Jason’s parents shut the door, Tatiana put Jason on the sofa and left him there on his own.

“Take care of yourself, Jason. I’ll be upstairs!”

Tatiana told Jason. She walked upstairs into Jason’s parents’ room and shut the door. She was glad to be away from him. Children were annoying. Little Jason was all alone in the living room but he did not mind. It was time for his favourite show, The Pirates’ Cove.

“Arr! Where be the booty?”

The main character asked in his pirate accent. The characters in the show were goofy and funny. The show was very entertaining to Jason.

“Oh! Jason’s parents are almost home!”

Tatiana noticed the time and rushed out of Jason’s parents’ room, down the stairs and into the living room. In there, she noticed a very strange sight but Jason was still laughing.

“His parents will not know that I leave him there every day as long as he’s still laughing,” Tatiana thought.

She suddenly heard the main door open. Tatiana immediately turned off the television and scooped Jason up. She acted as if she had been playing with him for hours.

“We’re back!” Jason’s parents called.

“Oh, hello! Jason and I were just watching television!” Tatiana lied. Jason’s parents were so gullible.

“Hello, Jason! What were you two watching?” Jason’s mother asked him. Jason simply looked innocently into his mother’s eyes.

“We will be having Show-and-Tell today about our favourite shows. Who would like to go first?” Jason’s teacher, Miss Forest, asked the class. All of the students bowed their heads, hoping that somebody brave would volunteer to go first. Nobody volunteered.

“What about you, Jason?” Miss Forest chose Jason to go first,

“Please stand up and tell us about your favourite show,” Jason sighed and stood up. He looked around the classroom. All eyes were on him.

“Well, my favourite show is The Pirates’ Cove. It’s about these pirates who are looking for treasure. I like it because I think the characters’ movements are very funny and goofy,” Jason explained. He did not expect words to just flow out of his mouth. Suddenly, a classmate raised her hand.

“I watch many shows on the television but I have never seen The Pirates’ Cove before. Are you sure it’s a real show?” she asked. Jason’s classmates nodded in agreement.

“Of course it’s a real show!” Jason replied, offended.

“I can’t believe she doesn’t know what the show is! She must be lying about watching television!” Jason told his best friend, Mikael, at recess.

“I want to believe you but I also have never heard of the Pirates’ Cove,” Mikael said.

“You too? Humph! I’ll show you! I’ll record a whole episode!” Jason said. He could not believe they did not know what The Pirates’ Cove was.

When Jason got back home, Tatiana was in his parents’ room. His parents’ were not home yet either, as usual. He dumped his bag on the floor as soon as he got home and ran into his room to find his camera. He rummaged through his drawers and cupboards. The camera was not in there. After a whole hour of searching for his camera, Jason finally found it under his bed. He ran into the living room and looked at the time.

“Phew, I’m just in time for The Pirates’ Cove!” Jason thought. He turned on the television and clicked the ‘Record’ button.

“Ahoy, sailors! Today, we are going to raid an island!” said the main character.

“Hm, that’s strange. I thought this show was only about finding treasure…” Jason mumbled to himself. Yet, he continued watching. The main character and his crew members sailed to an island and raided the island’s resources. When the villagers tried to stop them, they captured them and made them walk the plank. That scene was particularly scary.

“I wish somebody was here to watch it with me…” Jason thought. When the show ended, he stopped recording and turned off his camera. He put it in his bag and started doing his school homework.

The next day, at recess, he showed the recording to his classmates.

“See? This is a real show! Look, this is the main character and these are the crew,” Jason explained to his classmates. He did not notice his friends’ shocked looks and wide eyes. After the recording, all of Jason’s classmates backed away from him and went to the basketball court. Even Mikael left him. “Strange,” Jason thought.

At home, he changed into his pajamas and went into the living room.

“Time for The Pirates’ Cove!” Jason flopped onto the sofa and got ready for the show. He then heard his parents coming home from work. They were quite early. Tatiana’s footsteps boomed as she thundered down the stairs. She was sweating by the time she was beside Jason.

“I’ll get going now! Bye!’ Tatiana slipped out of the door, glad to get away from Jason and his parents.

“Father, Mother, come watch The Pirates’ Cove with me!” Jason called to his parents. They decided to watch it with him as they had never really spent much time with him.

“It’s starting!” Jason exclaimed, excited. “Look! See? That’s my favourite character!” Jason pointed. What his parents saw scared them.

They saw a big, dark screen.
