Throwback to when our short film, Lunch (2010), was screened at Dreamsong Gallery, Minneapolis two years ago. Directed by Anocha Suwichakornpong, Lunch is a light-hearted vignette of teenage idyll and is a part of the omnibus film Breakfast Lunch Dinner by three female Asian directors. The trilogy explores three different stories surrounding each meal-time.
"As frequently occurs in this amazing, still-evolving director’s work, what begins as social satire soon gives way to lyricism, with the world opening up as a gift for young people and offering them the hope that it will never close.” - Aaron Culter, International Festival of Curitiba

The program, curated by Rebecca Heidenberg, features 6 short films made over the last 15 years that shape-shift between genres by way of a deep engagement with the history of cinema. Blurring the line between fantasy and reality, the films confront historical trauma in striking, intimate narratives. Sharing an interest in myth, historical memory and marginalized communities, Suwichakornpong’s short films present insightful vignettes and character studies through a feminist lens.
The screening will be followed by a conversation between Suwichakornpong and Heidenberg, and a Q&A.
