Thyroid cancer develops when thyroid cells become mutated and begin growing, eventually forming a tumor within the gland. Left untreated, the cancer may spread to the nearby lymph nodes, lungs, bone, and in some cases, even the brain.

However, if detected early, thyroid cancer is one of the most curable cancers with a 5-year survival rate of 98%. At its earliest stages, the cancer may be cured via surgery.

A coronary angiography is a non-invasive heart imaging modality that produces clea 3D pictures of the heart and blood vessels, to determine the presence of fatty or calcium deposits (plaques) in the coronary arteries.

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that can affect the skin, nails, joints, tendons and eyes. Psoriasis is caused by the body’s immune system going into overdrive to attack the skin.

The skin is most commonly affected, causing rashes that have a clear outline. In the centre, the skin is purplish and flaky. The nails can become thick and irregular. Sometimes, the eyes become painful and red.

Some people with psoriasis can also develop psoriatic arthritis, when the immune system attacks the joints as well.

Dry eye syndrome occurs when the quality and/or quantity of tears are abnormal. This can result in damage to the outer eye surface, irritation of the eyes, or visual disturbances.

If the flow of blood to the heart is obstructed due to a narrowed artery (caused by a buildup of cholesterol or plaque), it may result in chest pain, a warning sign to seek help immediately.

In serious cases, a blood clot may form or the obstructed blood flow may worsen until the artery is completely blocked, resulting in a heart attack.

In such cases, a coronary angioplasty may be used to widen blocked or narrowed coronary arteries, so that normal blood flow can be restored.

Urinary incontinence (UI) refers to the involuntary leakage of urine. It is a distressing problem which occurs if your bladder muscles suddenly contract or the urethral sphincter muscles are not strong enough to hold back urine.

There are different types of incontinence and treatment depends on the type and cause of the problem.

Ptosis is when the upper eyelid droops over the eye. The eyelid may droop just a little, or so much that it covers the pupil.

Ptosis can limit or even completely block normal vision and can be both congenital or acquired. The usual cause of acquired ptosis is weakening or stretching of the upper eyelid muscle known as the levator muscle.

Only upper eyelid surgery can restore the proper functioning of the eyelid.

What is Rheumatoid Arthritis?

It is an autoimmune disorder which is a condition whereby the body’s immune system is unable to distinguish between healthy cells and harmful ones such as bacteria and viruses.

Wondering what treatment is necessary for thyroid cancer?

Treatment for thyroid cancer cases depend on its type and stage.

Surgery is usually the first-line treatment to early-stage thyroid tumors.

Following surgery, radioactive iodine ablation (RAI) is advised to completely eradicate the cancer and prevent recurrence.

Thyroid hormone therapy, meanwhile, reduces the thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels in the body, preventing cancerous thyroid cells from growing or recurring.

How is age-related macular degeneration (AMD) diagnosed?

- Testing for distorted central vision (Amsler grid)
- Examining the back of the eye for yellow deposits (drusen) that form under the retina
- Injecting a colored dye into the arm, which will travel to and highlight blood vessels in the eye
- Conducting an imaging test of the cross-section of the retina

Heart failure is often confused with heart attack. While both have similar causes, there are differences between the two conditions.

A heart attack is when arterial passages to the heart become clogged by plaque, restricting blood flow to the heart. If a clot develops and blood flow is completely stopped, a heart attack occurs.

A heart failure is more chronic and occurs when the heart muscle weakens and becomes unable to pump blood efficiently throughout the body.

An average menstrual cycle happens monthly with a period that lasts five to seven days.

Nose surgery, also known as rhinoplasty, may be performed for both medical and cosmetic reasons.

There are two approaches to rhinoplasty: open and closed. In a closed rhinoplasty, all the incisions and resulting scars are hidden within the nostrils.

An open rhinoplasty usually has an additional incision across the base of the collumella (tissue separating the nostrils). The resulting scar is inconspicuous and cannot be seen from the front.
