Bikezilla Mass Ride is ON at Chestnut Point 9am tomorrow! Our crew will be at the venue from 8am onwards.

As forecasted, any light rain should be cleared by 9am.

Weather Contingencies for Bikezilla Mass Ride

The past few days have had morning showers that cleared off by mid morning hours. We might get this kind of weather tomorrow. Well … we are mountain bikers 😛 A little bit of rain and mud add flavor to the ride experience. Agree?

So let’s do this: *** In the event of drizzle and mild rain, we will carry on with the Mass Ride. *** And in the event of heavy rain or thunderstorm we will postpone the ride to the following Saturday (same time same venue).

Partipants’ safety is our priority. We would adjust the ride itinerary according to observations during ride.

Meantime, let’s all hope for a good weathered Saturday morning. See yiu tomoerow 9am Chestnut Point. Ride!

How did the name “Mass Ride” came about?

The mid 80s was the golden age of Freestyle BMX and every cycling kid wants to have a BMX gang that resembles the ET gang (1982). Fast forward a couple of years (1987) of riding and the album “Music for the Masses” by Depeche Mode was launched. So we have our freestyle bikes, our BMX gang and Depeche Mode’s song in our heads as we rode. The song “Never Let Me Down Again” lingered, kept singing “I’m taking a ride with my best friend … “ At that age, taking the song’s lyric at face value, it just sounded like it was written for cycling with a gang of best buddies. (I found out later it was about substance abuse LOL, but think deeper and riding a bicycle is indeed quite a euphoric feeling too). That song, that feeling from riding a Freestyle BMX never fully left me all these years. So when we wanted a name for our platform event for riding with friends, I thought of the same feeling from those old school ride days - Ride for the Masses. Bikezilla Mass Ride.
