The Arabic term mazhab refers to a school of thought within Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh). This raises important questions: Why do multiple mazhabs exist? Are Muslims required to follow only one? And how are these schools understood and applied today?

Fret not, let us take you through a journey (rather a series of slides) to find about more about the different aspects of the different Mazhabs!

Assalamualaikum wr wb, everyone! 

Eleven will be selling a yearbook showcasing the various subcomms and adhocs in NTUMS AY24/25. Funds collected from this initiative are for future Eleven projects and initiatives.

All of us have contributed to NTUMS in our own ways and have formed unique and unforgettable memories and experiences over the past year. This yearbook is a chance to look back at all those efforts and experiences, celebrating and recognising the efforts of everyone in NTUMS ☺️.

If interested, do fill up the form in our bio! Distribution of yearbooks will be done in NTU. We will contact you through Telegram/Whatsapp regarding the collection details. 

The price of one yearbook is $11. Orders will be closing on Wednesday, August 13th, 2359.

ELEVEN FILES: MAISARAH

Islam places great emphasis on diversity. In Surah Al-Ma’idah (5:48), the verse states: “…If Allah had willed, He would have made you one community, but His Will is to test you with what He has given each of you. So compete with one another in doing good. To Allah you will all return, then He will inform you of the truth regarding your differences” affirming that diversity is a deliberate part of divine wisdom.

In society, however, expressions of faith are often entangled with dominant cultural identities–Singapore being an example where being Muslim is often conflated with the Malay Cultural Identity.

During a chat with my Indian Aunt who grew up within Malay cultural norms, I reflected on what might be lost in the process of fitting in–Did my ancestors choose to align freely with the dominant cultural narrative or was it just an unspoken necessity to be seen as Muslim?
