Great initiative, looking forward to seeing more π
For individuals with autism, the sensory challenges of public transport - such as loud noises and crowded spaces - can easily lead to overwhelming anxiety, turning a simple trip into a stressful experience. π£
With these challenges in mind, we collaborated with the Land Transport Authority β We Keep Your World Moving to trial a Sensory Tool Kit at some of our bus interchanges and MRT stations to help passengers with autism manage sensory overload. ππ
Each kit 𧩠is equipped with a variety of items designed to help them calm down, like earmuffs, visual timers, interactive books, and fidget tools. Passengers with autism and/or their caregivers can approach our staff at the Passenger Service Centre to borrow the Sensory Tool Kit or items at no charge. Don't forget to return the kit to the same interchange or station where you borrowed it! π
We've also partnered with the St. Andrew's Autism Centre π€ to train our frontline staff in autism awareness, empowering them to support passengers with autism who may be experiencing distress, with care and confidence.
