Recently, I shared an image of a red cloud as my profile picture. Some might not know it, but some would recognize it as the symbol for the Akatsuki from the manga/anime Naruto universe.
This mysterious group of rogue shinobi has always fascinated me, they are portray as 'bad guys' but their structure is interesting!
The Akatsuki is a formidable group, each member a powerful ninja capable of leading their own operations. Yet, they choose to band together for a common goal. This idea was introduced to me by Anntonii Soon Ghee Lim, who drew a parallel to how he envisions running his agency.
He imagines working with a team where everyone is a leader in their own domain, self-motivated, and capable of tackling significant projects, even with just 3-4 people. In such a setup, each person is both a leader and a follower, contributing to the collective goal without ego or unnecessary stress. The focus is purely on achieving the end goalโsuccess and earning money.
This approach resonated deeply with me! I think this is aligned with how I have always been comfortable representing other agencies without poaching their business, and thankfully, have the trust of the various owners to plug my services into their companies. For anyone working with me, I would also train them on making sure they follow this code.
I would remind them "Remember ah, we are not representing Red String today, so please forget Red String, we are now part of ABC Agency!"
A lot of times, this goes both ways, I have some clients who need things slightly out of my abilities, or things I do not want to focus on, and they are happy with representing Red String Virtual Playground too, or even when I was at Brandcore, and Takagi Agency before that.
I am thankful for the trust some of these partners have placed in me, some of them immediately giving me an email address under their agency's domain and plugging me into conversations with their clients. Similarly, thank you to all the partners from the industry who are comfortable enough to act in my humble agency's best interest, whichever clan I was representing at that point in time. You know who you are, or thankfully, you still remember fighting with me out on the field! :D
