We capture countless moments, but how often do we revisit them?
Growing up, my childhood memories lived in old photos or my mum’s stories.
Now, as a father, I document my kids’ lives, knowing these moments will matter someday.

Most of us rely on smartphones for photography, but do digital memories hold the same weight as physical prints?

A Planet of the Apes scene, where Gary Oldman’s character sees lost family photos after power is restored, made me reflect on this.

Today, I ask professional photographers: Smartphones vs. pro cameras—which truly preserves a moment?

In 2013, I had the honor of directing a Channel 5 telemovie written by Jonathan Lim ( ). I was just 28 then, still learning the ropes, and Jon was a pillar of support and encouragement throughout the process. He was often on set, guiding and collaborating, but when it came to his written material, he was unwavering.

I remember one moment vividly: an actor showed up unprepared, trying to memorize his lines on the spot. Jon lost his cool, but not out of frustration—it was because he cared deeply about the craft and the integrity of his work. He taught me an invaluable lesson that day: when to stand firm and when to uplift. As a young director, I learned from him that you don’t always have to be “liked” by everyone if you’re standing for the truth.

Jon was a relentless creative, using humor as a sharp yet gentle tool to reveal truths hidden between the lines. He had a gift for making people laugh while making them think. Such as his “Chestnuts” musical that I have watched over the years. The final bow from his last one in 2022.

Thank you, Jon, for inspiring everyone lucky enough to have known you. Your remarkable work and sharp wit have left a lasting impression on this little red dot. You will be deeply missed. Until we meet again.

I’m still struggling to believe you’re gone, . It feels so sudden, so unreal. I’ll deeply miss our endless conversations about films and our shared love for the art of storytelling. Those late-night suppers that carried on until the first light of dawn will always hold a special place in my heart.

Thank you for being such an inspiration to everyone whose lives you touched. Your warmth, your smile, and your passion lit up every room you walked into, and that light will stay with us forever.

I wish I had made more time to see you, to share more moments, more stories. I’ll miss you, my friend. Rest in peace, Jon. You’ll always be in our hearts.

Whether they have lines or not, every talent that appears on screen plays an essential role in bringing the film to life. Their authenticity and credibility shape the story’s world, making it feel real and immersive. Many of these individuals work as part-time actors, yet they give their all when the camera starts rolling, trusting the director to guide them and allowing themselves to be vulnerable in front of the lens. Their dedication and trust are what breathe life into every scene.

In 2025, I created my first video for my students at Pathlight School, which supports students on the autism spectrum in Singapore.
This video serves as a warm welcome for their videography CCA, presented asynchronously. It’s followed by an engaging, self-paced Kahoot game to enhance their learning experience.
I’m looking forward to being more active on social media this year, after a challenging 2024 filled with family and work commitments.
Happy New Year to all my connections and friends!

How do you teach something as creative as filmmaking?
For me, teaching isn’t just about sharing knowledge.
It’s about learning, growing, and finding meaning in the process.

Two years ago, I embarked on a journey to teach videography at Pathlight School, a school for kids with autism. Together, we set out with a big goal: to create and submit a video for the national competition, Our School, Our Stories.

In this video, I reflect on my experiences teaching these amazing students, the challenges we faced, and the incredible growth we’ve seen. Today marks the last day of our 2024 videography CCA club, and I’m recapping the journey with my students.

Can kids with autism create films?
The answer might surprise you.

Thank you to all my co-trainers for the effort and support for Pathlight CCA programme Rae Ann Nikki Ho Lawrence Pang Daniel Yam K*m Tim
and Programme Manager Yuan Sheng Tan

Since young, he has always been fascinated to use drawings to express himself.

During his teenage years, he enrolled into Temasek Design School for a diploma in “Interactive Media Design” where he aspire to be an animator.
