This morning we had the opportunity to embrace local living and Thai culture with a traditional blessing ceremony and ‘Tak Bat’, morning alms giving ritual with Buddhist monks. Thanks to Marriott Chiang Mai GM, Rajat Chatterjee and his wonderful team for arranging this interesting and beautiful ceremony.

So happy to check into the Marriott Chiang Mai after a grueling trip from Singapore to Thailand. Delayed about an hour and it was interminable time squeezed into the Scoot seat with two squalling kids directly behind me. I didn’t take it as an omen that I was in row 13, but didn’t care for being in the middle seat. Then I thought my luck was changed when I was asked to take the window seat so that friends could sit together. That put me in front of the two brutally loud kids. LA! LA! LA! – they kept it up until about 20 minutes before we landed.
Then my first time using Thailand’s new Digital Arrival Card. I filled it in Singapore. Unitl I got to the point where it said pay US$660.00. I new there was no need to pay. So I went to what I thought was the correct site. I filled in all the spaces in the long form once again and got to the same place. I boarded the flight without it being filled in. Upon landing I tried once again and while I was in line and I still didn’t have it right. The officer told me to go over there and I showed it to a fellow there. “No! that’s a scam from China. It is free!” He scanned a QR code and I filled in the form again, but this time it worked and went through with most people from my flight long gone and Donut and driver Tom waiting for me.
Then life really changed with a brief ride to the Marriott, a warm welcome by Russarin Viravat, Chris Yang, Jubie and Nong Fire. The room exudes the Golden Age of the Lanna Kingdom – as does the entire hotel – its atmosphere, décor, colours and cuisine reflect Lanna artistry, with teak wood, Northern Thai textiles, and paintings evoking life along the Ping River.
I was invited to join my fellow travels in the Ping Cuisine and Bar that serves Northern Thai specialties such as khao soi (Chiang Mai-style coconut curry noodle soup) and nam ngiao (spicy tomato-based noodle soup). A real taste of Lanna heritage. Jason warned me that the crab with red curry was really hot. The next level. He wasn’t wrong.
A brief hello with GM Rajat Chatterjee confirmed what I was thinking – that this was going to be a special time in Chiang Mai and the Marriott.

We are so blessed to have friends like Dan & Carol Heffernan in our lives. Every time we are in Victoria, we are treated to such scrumptious feasts. On this trip, we enjoyed Dan's fab steaks & lobsters. ( no pics).
At the end of our trip on Saturday, we had Dungeness crab and jumbo prawns accompanied by the tender chicken skewers with tzatziki sauce, Greek salad and fresh corn. The food, the weather, and the company were all in perfect harmony. We made room for Carol's yummy peach pie dessert by playing a game of bocce first.
It was great to finally meet Bo, Sue's husband. Thanks for the lovely memories and fantastic food chief! 😀

The buffet at the Edge Restaurant Pacific Singapore is undeniably one of the best buffets in town! Nothing beats all the plentiful fresh seafood and many other local delights all in one place! 😋.
Starve yourself for a week and then splurge on a decadent food journey! Indeed an impressive rendezvous place for all occasions!

With Singapore’s 60th anniversary approaching on August 9, 2025, Farah and I got the full flavour of the Lion City celebrations Saturday night. With traffic being diverted as the practice for the National Day Parade was being held in the Marina Bay area, we had to walk a few blocks to the Pan Pacific Singapore where we would enjoy an extensive buffet dinner at the Edge.
