Today I lost my friend. Today I lost my grandfather. The man who always sneak me out to get McDonald’s when my parents say no, buy me nonsense things like Digimon cards, and layan my late night maggi cravings growing up.

Tok basically took care of us when my parents were working, always tumpang me on his bicycle every morning to the beach and taught me fishing. Funny enough he didn’t teach me how to smoke.

Today I cried ugly. I’m sorry for crying ugly just now.

Thanks for being part of my life. Do pray for us as a family. Selamat Hari Raya, Maaf Zahir Dan Batin.

I got the opportunity to tell this humble story. It’s such a joy to be able to work on a project that talks about culture and religion.

“The Journey”

Sherry goes on a journey to find out more about Islam with reasons not made known to us. With the help of her Malay Muslim best friend, she watches various videos, attends lectures and participates in the Ramadan activities (charity drive, communal iftar etc.) We soon learn that this is not her choice and that she is just fulfilling her late husband’s wish. Even as she gradually embraces and appreciates the Ramadan activities that come with her journey, she is conflicted and filled with turmoil, leading us to question why her husband puts her on this path.

How does it feel turning 35? I still feel like I’m 25 sometimes. Looking forward to a great 2023 Insha Allah.
